January 2025
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the end of January! The children have returned to school after the break with a renewed enthusiasm for learning, diving eagerly into their Spring term learning. It has been delightful to visit classrooms and see the children fully engaged—tackling challenges, making new discoveries, acquiring knowledge, and building on what they learned last term. At the beginning of this Spring term, we held an assembly on our new term and what Snow Drop flowers represent; new beginnings, hope and overcoming challenges and how we can apply this to the week ahead.
This half term, we continue our focus on reading and at Foxfield we are emphasising reading fluency across the school. Teachers are incorporating various techniques into their reading lessons to help children become fluent readers who can read aloud effortlessly and with expression. Developing fluency requires regular practice, so we ask that every child reads at home for at least 15 minutes each day with an adult or older sibling. To foster a love of reading, children will bring home a book suited to their reading level and another book chosen purely for enjoyment. If you have any questions about your child’s reading materials, please speak with their class teacher.
We understand that some children may have received new devices or gadgets over the festive season. At school, our computing curriculum ensures children in all year groups learn the importance of online safety. To support parents at home, National Online Safety has created a helpful poster with tips for keeping children safe online. If you’d like further guidance, Mr. Porter or Mr. Fuller are available to help you set up devices securely. For additional advice, please visit the link by clicking here:
We also use X/Twitter to share learning highlights and engage with our school community. If you’re not already following us, you can find our main account at @foxfield. This year, we’ve introduced individual X/Twitter accounts for each year group, allowing you to stay updated on your child’s classroom activities. Please follow your child’s year group account:
@FoxfieldNursery
@FoxfieldRec
@FoxfieldYear1
@FoxfieldYear2
@FoxfieldYear3
@FoxfieldYear4
@FoxfieldYear5
@FoxfieldYear6
We’ve had several enquiries about our Evergreen after-school club, which runs daily from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The club offers a variety of fun activities, and we’re excited to share that spaces are still available. For more information, please contact the school office.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to approach us at the gates—we’re always happy to help!
With very best wishes, Megan Minnett, Tatum Sharp and all of the Foxfield team
