Dear Parents,
It has been a wonderful start to 2026, with the children returning to school displaying excellent behaviour for learning and a keen focus in the classroom. I am delighted to report that our attendance for January rose to 94.91%, a significant improvement from December’s 93.46%; we are now within touching distance of our 95.5% annual target. A particular highlight this month was our choir’s incredible performance at the Young Voices event at the O2 Arena; I am immensely proud of their hard work and the way they represented the school on such a grand stage. Alongside this, our Pyjama Day and STEM afternoon were huge successes, and we now look forward to maintaining this engagement for Numbers Day on 6th February!

This month's learning...
We have been learning about the story ‘Three Little pigs and the Big Bad Wolf’.
Children were enjoying recreating a house of straw, a house of sticks and a house of bricks.
The children have enjoyed learning how to create collages of animals using different materials including tissue paper and feathers. We have been practising our cutting skills too.
Monet class loved Pyjama Day! They enjoyed an exciting STEM afternoon building a bridge for the Gingerbread Man!
O’Keeffe class loved Pyjama Day and a brilliant STEM afternoon with the Great Boat Float! We planned, built, tested and improved our boat designs like real engineers!
Van Gogh loved making a collage using new skills learnt in their art lessons. They had to think about the way a leaf changes over time, and use coloured card and paper to show this.
Gill class loved STEM afternoon, we thoroughly enjoyed science where we explored how sound travels using a range of musical instruments. We discovered that the tempo of the vibration controlled how loud or quiet the sound was.
In Indiana, the children have been writing their newspaper report all about the Day the Crayons Quit. They have come up with creative headlines and have worked extremely hard to step into the shoes of a reporter!
In Warhol class, the children had a nice time showcasing their acting skills during our RHE lesson on how to help if someone has been bitten or stung by a bee. We also discussed who and what number(s) to contact in the event of an emergency.
In computing we have been learning about Vector drawings. We have been replicating drawings using different shapes and then creating our own images.
In Wiltshire, we had a great time in science exploring how speed can affect the amount of air resistance. The children walked, jogged and ran holding a large sheet of paper to see how it was impacted by air resistance.
During 'STEM' afternoon we designed our very own parachutes! We used tissue paper, paper, cups and string to then test and see how long it took for the parachutes to touch the the floor depending on the weight inside the cup! We also loved PJ day!
This term in Picasso class pupils have been looking at how sounds are made. They have carried out various experiments and have discovered that all sounds are vibrations. They proved this by making "telephones" by using paper cups and string.
Our Whole School attendance this month is: 94.91%

School Improvement - Our Priorities
Our priorities this year are as follows:
Educational Excellence
Achieve sustained educational excellence by refining and embedding pedagogical practices across all year groups, driven by a rigorous, continuous instructional coaching cycle to ensure that all pupils, especially disadvantaged and high-attaining learners, consistently achieve and exceed national expected outcomes for attainment and demonstrate exceptional rates of progress.
Strengthening Attendance
Strengthen attendance processes and procedures to ensure that Elaine Primary School achieves national measures for whole-school attendance and significantly reduces persistent absence.
Community Engagement
Strengthen community engagement through greater participation of parents and carers in school life, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
Pupil Leadership
To empower pupils to play a greater and more impactful role in the life of the school, fostering a culture of active citizenship and shared responsibility.
School Uniform
It is great to see the children looking smart in their school uniforms. Just a reminder that all shoes should be black, earrings need to be studs only and hair bands should be small and in school colours.
Please see the link to the uniform policy:

Sports clubs have now started.
Please speak to Miss Macklin, our PE coordinator, if you have any questions about PE or sports clubs.
All children must bring their PE kit on PE day. This must be Elaine PE kit.
Healthy School
As a school, we promote healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Snacks should be fruit only. Water should be sent in children's bottles and children may have squash/juice at lunchtime only. Children will not be allowed to drink squash during lessons.
As we have children with allergies at Elaine, we are a nut free school so please consider this when packing your child a packed lunch.
