Respect Kindness Honesty Perseverance Collaboration Responsibility
Delce news from the Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers
It is always so lovely to hear from the children about the exciting learning taking place in our school. This week there have been some inspiring art lessons; in Year 4 the children used water colours to in shades of blue to create background gradients on to cartridge paper. Year 6 experimented with oil pastels and shading techniques inspired by the artist Kim Guthrie. Their recreations of the canvas 'Gorilla' shows great precision and careful placement of colours by blending and merging. Art work to be really proud of!
Our school has also been a hub of excitement as children across the school put themselves forward to be elected as their class representative for the 2023-24 JLT team. The children have demonstrated high levels of respect when listening to individuals speak whilst upholding our fundamental British Value of Democracy. While we have shared the results of the election, we are proud of every child that spent time preparing their mini campaign. We certainly have many more children who have shown they are able to take on responsibility so the senior leadership will be thinking of other Pupil Leadership roles we could introduce at Delce.
Last week, I announced the re-branding of the PTA - 'Friends of Delce Academy' - and we are looking for a Chair, a Treasurer and a Secretary. An EGM will be taking place in the main hall on Tuesday 31st October at 2:45pm for you to vote. We are really looking forward to establishing our new PTA to launch fun, memorable community events for all of our children and their families. If you would like to volunteer and become a member, we very much look forward to welcoming you to the team!
Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!
Miss Stevens

Our learning this week
Inventors
This week, we have explored storms using QR codes and images. We have focused on our senses: sight, touch and feel and generated adjectives that we can use in our writing later.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, the children have been exploring a variety of facts regarding plastic pollution. We have also been looking at the structure and features of a non-chronological report.
Year 4
In Science this week, we explored irreversible and reversible changes. Using our hypothesis, we investigated how different temperatures affect chocolate before discussing possible methods to return the chocolate to its "normal state".
Year 5
This week, we are thrilled to share the remarkable progress Year 5 students have made in developing their writing skills, particularly in the realm of narrative writing. Our young writers have demonstrated incredible growth and creativity, mastering the technical aspects of writing, linked within our core text, 'Running Wild'.
Year 6
This week, Year 6 absolutely loved their African Drumming Workshop. This rare opportunity enabled pupils to participate in creating traditional music whilst simultaneously linking with our core text, ‘Gorilla Dawn’ - a story set in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
DEC
This week, the DEC have been publishing their final outcomes in English. Jackson class have been writing poems about acceptance, while Adams class have been writing diary entries from the perspective of the main character in their core text.
Pupil Voice Matters!
JLT elections
On Thursday, we held our Junior Leadership Team (JLT) elections during our classroom assemblies. It was children's chance to make their voice heard and choose the leaders who would represent their class and help make our school an even better place.
After the votes were cast and counted, the anticipation was built as the children eagerly awaited the results. On Friday, during our Celebration Assembly, we proudly announced the winners of the JLT election! It was a moment of celebration and a chance to see who would lead us forward into a year of positive change and growth.
