Delce news from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

It's been a week bursting with activity and engagement at Delce!

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Schwartz for leading our insightful online safety workshop. Seeing so many families actively learn and participate was encouraging. Remember, open communication and clear boundaries are crucial for keeping your children safe online. Encourage them to share any concerns they have.

Miss Stevens delivered an assembly, reminding us all of our shared responsibility on the roads. Whether we're pedestrians, cyclists, or drivers, let's commit to the golden rule: STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! This simple reminder can make a world of difference in keeping ourselves and others safe.

Please watch and replay this video with your child to repeat the messages they have had in school this week: Road Ready? Expect the Unexpected! and sing along with this Road Safety Reminder

Inventors class had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Salvation Army. Their visit sparked curiosity and ignited discussions about the organisation's history and dedication to serving others. This experience exemplifies our school's commitment to fostering social responsibility and active citizenship. The Inventors Class learned so much from the Salvation Army!

Beyond these specific initiatives, the entire week was filled with vibrant and engaging lessons across all grade levels. Students actively took ownership of their learning, participating in exciting activities and discussions. It's moments like these that really demonstrate the joy and power of education.

Remember, whether online, on the road, or within our community, safety and well-being remain top priorities at Delce. We believe in working together – parents, teachers, and children – to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone. Remember, you can always reach out to the school with any questions or concerns you may have.

Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring the well-being of our children.

Miss Stevens

'At Delce We Do Belong'

Our Core Value this term: KINDNESS

In a world so vast, where creatures roam,

A tale of kindness finds its home.

Let's journey now, with hearts so bright,

To learn the joy of being kind, just right.

In meadows green and forests deep,

Where animals play and secrets keep,

A lesson whispers through the trees,

Of kindness shared with gentle ease.

Beneath the sky so blue and wide,

A bunny hops, a bird takes flight.

With fur and feathers, scales and paws,

We'll celebrate them, one and all.

Oh, let us be a friend so true,

To creatures big and small, it's true.

Extend a hand, a caring touch,

For kindness, dear friends, means so much.

A purring cat, a wagging tail,

A gentle stroke, without fail.

For every creature, great and small,

Deserves our love, the most of all.

The purr of kittens, soft and sweet,

The fluttering butterflies, a treat.

Let's treasure them, with hearts so free,

For kindness blooms in you and me.

With every step, with every word,

Let love for animals be heard.

In forests wild or city streets,

Kindness to animals, a joy that beats.

So let's be kind, both you and I,

To creatures low and in the sky.

In every paw, in every wing,

A world of kindness, let's all bring.

To promote our core value of KINDNESS, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.

This week’s recommendation is: 'Be Kind to Animals' an Islamic story for children.

You can also sing along at home with our Kindness Song

Inventors

This week, Inventors have enjoyed their Art learning where we started to create Myriorama’s in art. Next week, we are going to collage them to match events within our core text.

Year 3

This week in Year 3, the children were showcasing their comic strips. These comic strips were inspired by our core text 'Every Child a Song'. They showed the Core Value of Respect very well as they read each other's work.

Year 4

Year 4 have enjoyed using their learning of compass points and continents to create journeys across the world. We had to give instructions to our partners and include which oceans and continents we were crossing.

Year 5

Year 5 have been looking at what good hygiene means and how we can keep ourselves, surroundings, and food clean. Daily habits like washing hands, brushing teeth, and cleaning spaces prevent illness and create a healthy, happy environment for everyone.

Year 6

This week, Year 6 have been learning to change and manipulate Computer programmes and code using Scratch.  They have learned how to move different objects in a range of directions by changing their code as well as making them rotate.

DEC

This week Jackson Class have enjoyed writing a letter to the MP for the environment to ask him what he is doing to prevent deforestation.

DEC are enjoying the basketball enrichment club.

Uniform

We wanted to gently remind everyone of the importance of our school uniform policy. Wearing a uniform plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community, belonging, and pride within our school environment. It also promotes equality and reduces distractions, allowing students to focus on their learning.

Unfortunately, we've noticed an increase in instances where children arrive at school not wearing the correct uniform. We understand that occasional oversights can happen, but we kindly request your cooperation in ensuring your child comes to school dressed appropriately.

We understand that purchasing a new uniform can be costly. Therefore, please know that we offer a pre-loved uniforms in the school office. Gently used uniforms in good condition are available for purchase at a fraction of the price. This helps families and promotes sustainability.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in upholding our school uniform policy. Together, we can create a consistent and positive learning environment for all our children.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Enrichment
A message from Mr Minlah...

The new after school clubs this term have been received really well by the children. Chess club in particular, is a club that Grigor from Curie class has been advocating for a chess club since September and finally got his wish.  Grigor is a member of the Medway Chess club, where he plays against professional adult chess players, every Wednesday and shares his knowledge and experience other children club at the Delce Academy chess club. We are so proud!

Family and Community Information

ROAD SAFETY

We wanted to express our thanks for your adherence to the traffic rules around the school, particularly regarding the zigzag lines. Your cooperation in keeping this area clear is crucial for the safety of all our children.

As you know, stopping on the zigzag lines creates several dangers:

We understand that picking up and dropping off children can be a hectic time, but there is always plenty of safe parking available on the opposite side of the road. Please take advantage of these spaces to ensure the safety of our students.

We have observed some instances of parents parking on the zigzag lines for extended periods during afternoon pick-up. Please remember that these lines are there for a reason, and parking here, even for a short time, puts children at risk.

Thank you once again for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe. By working together, we can create a safe and positive environment for all our children.

Chartwell's family workshop

We wanted to express our sincere gratitude to all of you who attended our recent Family Chartwell's Healthy Eating Workshop. It was wonderful to see so many families come together to learn about healthy eating habits and create lasting memories in the kitchen.

We were delighted to hear your positive feedback and appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. It means a lot to know that you enjoyed the workshop and found it valuable.

Here are just a few of the kind words we received:

"I really enjoyed it, the recipe sheets are great and are lovely to use at home. My child is getting into cooking and these have been really useful."

"I loved it, loved the recipe book that we got to take home, myself and my daughter will be choosing a recipe each week from it to cook together."

"New recipes to try, really informative, was good to see how to bulk meals out on a budget and it was good to take stuff away with all ingredients / measurements to try at home."

Your enthusiasm and engagement made the workshop a truly rewarding experience for us. We are thrilled that you found the recipes helpful and are excited to see you and your families trying them out in your own kitchens. We encourage you to continue exploring healthy eating habits as a family. Remember, small changes can make a big difference!

SEND

A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...

Mr. Palmer's Parent Drop Ins

Each week Mr. Palmer will be available 9am-10am every Friday in 15 minute slots to discuss any concerns.

If you would like one of the 15 Minute Slots to discuss something, please use the QR code below to access the booking system.

Mr Palmer's Top Tip this week!

Is your child struggling to gain interest in reading because they find it difficult?

Try finding them an alternative form of reading such as magazines, catalogues or even the subtitles on their favourite TV programme! The more they read texts that interest them, the more reading will become enjoyable and the better at reading they will get!

Online Safety

Safer internet day communications

Save your junk.

During Internet Safety day, we will be inviting all parents in to help your children create their own new and improved pieces of technology, that will meet their needs better then what is already out there.

We are asking for your support in gathering your usable household waste.  We are hoping that you can collect and donate some of your waste plastic, cardboard, bottle tops, boxes ect, so that we have a range of resources to create our own new technology.

A polite reminder that these need to be clean and suitable for children to handle. In addition, we should not have containers that include nuts due to allergies.  Please can donations be handed to class teachers by Monday 5th February.

What do you know about keeping children safe online-Kahoot quiz

We would like to invite you in on Monday 5th February at 3:00 for a short quiz and questions and answer session with Officer Rowan, to allow us to get a better understanding of your understanding of the role and responsibilities of keeping children safe online and not only the importance but also the impact this has on children's Mental Health, which also links to our Mental health week.

This will help us to tailor an online safety workshop to yourself on Tuesday 6th February at 3:00 after you have junk modelled with your child.

Online safety workshop

To aid you with supporting your children to navigate through the online world, we are holding a workshop that incorporates responses from our Kahoot Quiz held on Monday 5th February at 3:00.
