Delce news from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

Unbelievably, we are three weeks into the Autumn Term. The children are all settled with their new teachers and exciting learning is taking place across the entire school.

On Thursday, Mr Palmer (SENCO) hosted our first SEN coffee morning where we welcomed families to meet the inclusion team. Over a cup of tea and some biscuits, we shared our support packages, systems & processes and how we work in partnership with the local authority to ensure all children feel successful.

Also this week, the Year 6 teaching team hosted their first parent workshop which was designed to provide clarity and information about their child's final year in primary education: the educational offer, secondary school support, overview of assessments and enrichment activities planned for this year. We were thrilled to welcome over 50 parents to this event as together we can ensure the very best memories for our children.

Touring visitors around our school always fills me with pride and this week we were visited by the Headteachers from St Peter's Infants and Crest Infant School - Mrs Curzon and Mrs Seal. I took them to see the new Year 3 children who had previously been in their schools and they were amazed at the quality of work the children had produced so far this term and how the children had 'grown up' and settled so quickly. Both Headteachers commented on how Delce felt purposeful, calm and nurturing across the school.

You will read in this newsletter a closing letter for the Delce Academy PTA. We would like to thank them for their hard work and voluntary contributions over the years and the difference the PTA have made to funding in our school. With this closure, comes an opportunity to relaunch a new PTA. I would like to invite staff, parents/carers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and close family friends to join our new Friends Of Delce Academy. We will communicate more on this exciting announcement in next week's newsletter!

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!

Miss Stevens

Inventors

Our learning this week

Inventors

To continue our learning on habitats this week, Inventors were lucky enough to have a workshop from Zoo Labs. We learnt about many different animals, their habitats and had an opportunity to ask questions to extend our knowledge. It was so exciting to be able handle some of the animals.

Year 3

This week in year three, the children have been working really hard on their narratives exploring plastic pollution. They have made sure to use a variety of writing techniques including: adjectives, adverbs, similes and conjunctions.

Year 4

Year 4 have worked hard this week to write their narrative based on our core text Azzi In Between. We used a range of language features to make our stories interesting.

In Curriculum, we were able to recall our compass points and use this to give each other directions in class. We also enjoyed comparing the human geography of the UK and Morocco.

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have been comparing the UK to Indonesia. Looking specifically at the location of the two countries, the children used subject specific vocabulary to identify which hemisphere either country is in and describe what and where the equator is.

Year 6

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their computing lesson this week! They have applied their mathematical knowledge of angles to make a turtle create a square at the click of a button!

DEC

Jackson Class has enjoyed joining Inventors Class to take part in the Zoo Lab and learn about habitats. This is linked to our science learning. We are also creating an ant farm to care for in class to help us with our understanding of habitats.

Pupil Voice Matters!

Pupil Leadership JLT

We would like to share an exciting update regarding our Junior Leadership Team (JLT) elections. On Monday, Ms. Kogut delivered a whole-school assembly to explain the JLT election process.

If you haven't already seen it, an email was sent on Monday outlining the details of the election process. We encourage you to review this email with your children so they can fully understand the process and requirements.

The culmination of this process will be the voting, scheduled for Thursday next week.

A message from Mr Minlah...

PE KIT at Delce

Please note that this year, we are asking children to change into their school PE kit in school - no child should be arriving at school in their PE kit. Ideally, your child should bring in their PE bags and keep them in school for the term and take them home at the end of the term. Thank you for supporting us with this.

Mr Minlah

Family and Community Information

Dear Delce Academy Community,

As Chairperson, I am officially announcing the closure of Delce Academy PTA. It has been a pleasure to serve and connect with you over the past 4 years. The team and I have had many wonderful experiences, created memories, and raised lots of money to aid the school. The memories the team and I will take with us include serving parents breakfast in our Mother’s Day and Father’s Day events, seeing how talented our families were with the yearly Pumpkin decorating competition, dancing the evening away with the children at the Christmas disco and cheering our children on a Sports Day. It has been a delight to get to know the children, seeing the smiles on their faces and connecting with families has provided us with a huge sense of pride.

Since our launch in 2016, we have funded 30 classroom tablets, (which are still used by each class), new netball hoops, restocked wet-play boxes, bought the children commemorative Jubilee medals, and funded the yearly ice cream truck visits. With the last of the money, the team voted to buy books to aid the learning of the children and expand the school library. These will be delivered to the school before October half term. Everything that the PTA has achieved was made possible by the wonderful team of volunteers I have had the pleasure to work with, and by the gracious support and participation of each parent and child that are part of the Delce community. I would like to extend my thanks to each and every one of you.

I know that Miss Stevens has great plans for the future of Delce Academy, including lots of fun and exciting events to build the community. I wish all the children, staff and families connected with Delce Academy the best and hope that you enjoy your time with the school and create many happy memories.

Yours Gratefully

Laura Vinten

Online Safety

Smart sharing, not oversharing

News (good and bad) travels fast online, and can sometimes lead to tricky situations with lasting consequences. Teach children what can be shared, and how to share safely, with those they know — and those they don’t.

BE INTERNET SHARP topics:

What is a digital footprint?

Should I be sharing it?

Wishing these children a Happy Birthday for birthdays this coming week!
