Delce news from the Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers
As we reflect on the week at Delce, I am delighted to share some of our highlights with you.
Throughout this week, our assemblies have been a centre of discussions on important topics, including the significance of healthy eating and practical tips for staying safe. Witnessing our children actively engaging in these conversations affirms our commitment to their well-being being the very best it can be.
In our classrooms, the learning atmosphere has been electric, filled with hands on experiences. The children have embraced every opportunity for dynamic learning, making the most of our enriched educational environment. Please go to X for the updates of our children's endeavours.
I am excited to share that our new approach to teaching reading has taken off remarkably well. This week, our children continued to demonstrate great enthusiasm, actively participating in their daily reading lessons. It's heart-warming to see their genuine excitement for acquiring new skills and knowledge.
To encourage a love for reading, we encourage each child to take time for home reading every day. Our school library is stocked with a diverse range of genres available for borrowing, allowing children to extend their reading adventures beyond the classroom.
Parents and carers, your involvement is crucial in nurturing a passion for reading in your children. We strongly encourage you to spend quality time reading with your child at home—a simple yet powerful way to strengthen the parent-child bond while fostering a love for learning.
Thank you for your continued support. Together, we are making a positive impact on our children's educational journey.
Miss Stevens
'At Delce We Do Belong'
Our Core Value this term: KINDNESS
Kind Words
By Daniel Clement Colesworthy
A little word in kindness spoken,
A motion or a tear,
Has often healed the heart that’s broken,
And made a friend sincere.
A word a look has crushed to earth
Full many a budding flower,
Which, had a smile but owned its birth,
Would bless life’s darkest hour.
Then deem it not an idle thing,
A pleasant word to speak;
The face you wear, the thoughts you bring,
A heart may heal or break.
To promote our core value of KINDNESS, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.
This week’s recommendation is: 'A Little Spot of Kindness.' by Diane Alber
You can also sing along at home with our Kindness Song
Inventors
This week, we have incorporated computing skills and teamwork into our History learning. The children of Inventors have explored the Salvation Army in preparation for their visitors next week.
Year 3
In maths this week, we started a new topic of measurement. The children explored different units of measurement to measure different objects around the classroom.
Year 4
In English this week, we have written our own biography on Matthew Henson and learnt all about Clever Never Goes and how to keep ourselves safe.
Year 5
Year 5 have delved into the depths of Ancient Greece. Learning the rights of women during those times. They explored and compared the difference in lifestyle women had in Athens and Sparta and how this has changed in the modern day.
Year 6
This week, Year 6 have been exploring the features of a newspaper article. We have been generating open-ended questions and learning how to distinguish between direct and reported speech.
DEC
During science Adams class experimented how light travels. We were experimenting to see how we can see around corners , objects behind us using mirrors and reflections knowing that the light only travels in a straight line. DEC also showed great kindness in welcoming a new child - Jamie-Lee.

The boys from the sports therapy group were working on teamwork and communication skills. This week, the children discussed their success journey in the previous week and gave each other advice on things they could have improved upon.
Well done to Archie Barton who was awarded a certificate for achieving grade 3 at his figure rollerskating dance club.

CLEVER NEVER GOES
Our children's safety is paramount at Delce. We've been actively educating our children on recognising and interacting with safe and trusted adults. Through recent assemblies, we've discussed different scenarios they may encounter.
These conversations aim to empower our children with the knowledge to navigate various situations and identify trustworthy individuals. We encourage you to continue these discussions at home, reinforcing the values shared in our school assemblies.
Update from the Trust Leader, Rob Carpenter
Trust Leader Rob Carpenter has shared a special update highlighting our children's achievements and the collaborative spirit. Please follow the link for details.
Head Bumps Procedures at Delce
In the event of a head bump, our priority at Delce is to ensure the safety and well-being of the child. Here's a quick guide to our procedures:
Treat the Child: We will provide necessary first aid to the child, assessing the severity of the bump and addressing any immediate concerns.
Record in the First Aid Book: We will document the incident in our First Aid Book, detailing the nature of the head bump, actions taken, and any follow-up steps.
Provide Incident Tear-Out Copy: We will provide the child with a tear-out carbonated copy of the incident report to take home. This serves as a transparent communication tool for parents/carers, keeping them informed about the incident.
Call Parent: We will make a call to the parent to notify them that their child has experienced a head bump. We will share the details of the incident and any immediate actions taken.
Follow-Up Arbor Message: We will reinforce the communication by sending an Arbor message to the parent/carer. This digital follow-up ensures that the parent has a clear record and understanding of the incident.
'I Have Bumped My Head' Wristband: We will place an 'I have bumped my head' wristband on the child. This visible indicator helps staff and others be aware of the situation and provide appropriate support.
Record Parent Communication on CPOMS: We will log all details of the parent communication and follow-up on our CPOMS system.
At Delce, the safety and well-being of our children are paramount. These procedures are designed to ensure a swift and effective response to head bumps, promoting transparency and communication with parents/carers throughout the process.
Important Traffic Notice: Safety First at Delce
We appreciate everyone's commitment to the safety of our children at Delce. However, we've noticed a recurring concern regarding the zig-zag lines in front of the school during drop-off times.
We understand that mornings can be rushed, and parents might feel tempted to make a quick stop. However, the area marked by the zig-zag lines and cones is designated as an out-of-bounds zone for a reason – it's a crucial safety measure.
The safety of our children is our top priority, and stopping on the zig-zag lines poses a serious risk. These lines indicate a clear no-stop zone, ensuring safe access for pedestrians and maintaining traffic flow.
We kindly request that all parents and guardians adhere to this rule. Let's work together to keep our school environment safe and efficient. Your cooperation in refraining from stopping on the zig-zag lines is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to the well-being of our students.

SEND
A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...

Each week Mr. Palmer will be available 9am-10am every Friday in 15 minute slots to discuss any concerns.
If you would like one of the 15 Minute Slots to discuss something, please use the QR code below to access the booking system.
Mr Palmer's Top Tip this week!
Is your child struggling to gain interest in reading because they find it difficult?
Try finding them an alternative form of reading such as magazines, catalogues or even the subtitles on their favourite TV programme! The more they read texts that interest them, the more reading will become enjoyable and the better at reading they will get!
NEXT WEEK!!!!!!
