Delce news from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

As we reflect on the past week, I am thrilled to share the wonderful events that took place at our school.

Heartfelt praise goes to Year 4 for their exceptional efforts in organising the Rotary Shoe Box appeal. Their dedication to spreading joy and kindness has left a lasting impact on our community, showcasing the compassion and generosity of our children.

A special thank you is also extended to Mrs. Morrish and Lynsey Andrews our Head Chef at Delce, for hosting the start of our Christmas Cookup workshops for parents. Aromas of festive treats filled the air, creating delicious dishes with just brussles and bacon.

In our commitment to supporting our Delce community, Mr Palmer our SENCO hosted a Fortis Trust workshop focused on supporting children with ADD and ADHD. This session provided valuable insights, strategies, and a supportive environment for understanding and managing these conditions. Creating a network of support for every member of our school community is important to us at Delce.

These events this week, captured the spirit of unity and learning that defines our school. We are grateful for your participation in these events and it is with great pleasure I can now announce that we have a newly certified PTA set up called, 'Friends of Delce' and we cannot wait to host their first event!

Thank you for your continued support. I am excited to witness our school community continue to flourish in the spirit of collaboration and shared learning.

Have a happy and safe weekend!

Miss Stevens

'At Delce We Do Belong'

Our learning this week

Inventors

This week in Art, we have explored primary and secondary colours. Using this newly develop skill of colour mixing, we created our own underwater worlds, using watercolours to show the scales of the Rainbow fish.

Year 3

This week in Maths, the children have started their new new topic of multiplication and division. They have excelled in grouping and sharing, which has enabled them to collaborate effectively and coach each other on a variety of questions.

Year 4

This week, Year 4 have worked extremely hard to finish their historical recounts - inspired by our core text, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit. We also spoke with Bill from Rotary club all about our new exciting Shoebox Project.

Year 5

Year 5 students have been honing their writing skills through a captivating journey with our core text, "Zane and the Hurricane." Immersed in the rich narrative, they have embarked on the art of recount writing, vividly capturing the essence of the story through their own perspectives. The students' recount pieces not only showcase their literary prowess but also reflect their deep engagement with the characters and themes of the book.

Year 6

This week, Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their art lesson. They have explored using wire to begin building the free-standing palm that will hold the Earth. In the first part of our lessons, we created the base, shape & began to construct the base layer that the papier mache will stick to.

This is closely linked with our topic on Climate Change where the sculpture will represent the damage caused by greenhouse gasses.

DEC

In the DEC this week, we have been exploring food from different cultures. Mrs Khan made dishes for the children that she makes at home. She made fish cakes, samosas and onion bhajis. The children enjoyed tasting the dishes and writing about their likes and dislikes.

A message from Mr Minlah...

Mrs Peters leads our Choir, and it's more than just singing – it's like being part of a big, happy family. She makes every practice super interesting with cool songs. Mrs Peters loves making learning about music fun, and you can feel her excitement. Whether we're doing warm-ups, playing vocal games, or trying out new songs, it's always exciting. She makes sure everyone in the Choir feels like a team, and we all have a great time together. Mrs Peters doesn't just teach us music; she helps us love it, and that's what makes our Choir so awesome!

Delce Academy's boys' football team is making waves on the field as they continue to show remarkable improvement during their practices. With each training session, these young athletes are not only honing their skills but also exemplifying teamwork and dedication.

A polite reminder that due to parents' evening, there will be no clubs next week.

Family and Community Information

#beabuddynotabully

The results of the anti-bullying poster competition were nothing short of inspiring, showcasing the creativity and dedication of participants in raising awareness about the importance of kindness and empathy. Entrants poured their artistic talents into visually compelling posters that conveyed powerful messages against bullying. The winning entries stood out for their innovative designs, impactful slogans, and thought-provoking imagery, capturing the essence of a united front against bullying. This competition not only fostered a sense of community but also sparked meaningful conversations about promoting a culture of respect and understanding.

The winner is Kourtney from Darwin Class! Well done!

Mr Palmer's Top Tip this week!

Does your child struggle to regulate their emotions? Make sure to give them opportunities and language to talk about how they feel when they are regulated and calm as they may not be able to do this when unregulated.

Zones of Regulation is a great resource to support this and is how we support children in school.
