Delce news from the Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers
Our musical enrichment offer has been enhanced this week as we saw the launch of our lessons to learn how to play musical instruments. It was wonderful to see how excited the children were to learn a new skill and to experience playing a recorder, ukulele or the trombone. Every class has a musical session each week with Andie from Medway Music Association this year and we eagerly await our first musical ensemble!
I have been extremely proud of the efforts all children are making to ensure they uphold our high expectations of school uniform. The children are looking very smart in their school shoes and correct Delce uniform and I would like to thank you all for supporting the school in meeting these new expectations.
This week, teachers shared the homework expectations for their year group. The homework includes weekly activities that will develop fluency in reading and mathematics as well as increase a specific area of knowledge that builds on learning within the classroom that week. Termly homework activities have also been shared and are linked to your child's curriculum theme this term. This allows children to delve deeper into subject areas of their choice; I look forward to celebrating your child's home projects and showcasing these on our Twitter page! We recognise that not every child has a quiet space or perhaps resources to complete their homework so please do take advantage of our home learning club offer on Mondays for Y2, Y3 and Y4 and Thursdays for Y5 and Y6.
It was great to see so many parents at the 'Meet the Teacher' sessions this week. We understand that, for working parents/carers, these sessions can be hard to attend; should you wish to make an appointment to see your child's teacher, please contact the school office.
Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!
Miss Stevens

Our learning this week
Inventors
Within our Maths learning this week, we have explored number lines. The children have used their knowledge of number to identify the interval and this has helped them to identify where particular numbers sit on the number line and estimate where an arrow is pointing.
Year 3
This week in year three, the children have been learning how to play the recorder in their first music lesson of the year.
The children really enjoyed learning new music.
Year 4
This week, Year 4 have enjoyed their first recorder lesson. We were able to recall our learning from last year's music lessons.
The Year 4 team enjoyed inviting parents/carers into our classrooms during Meet the teacher sessions.
Year 5
This week Year 5, have been differentiating between direct and indirect speech. We are beginning to use inverted commas correctly when writing a narrative.
The children have also looked at writing simple compound and complex sentences.
Year 6
This week, Year 6 enjoyed learning about living things and classifying different creatures. They identified key characteristics that various animals have in common, and grouped them according to these characteristics.
DEC
This week, the DEC have enjoyed their new music lessons and learning to play the Ukulele.
We have also enjoyed our first swimming lesson on Friday.
