Delce news from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

What a whirlwind of exciting activities we've had at Delce this week!

Firstly, we're currently seeking a dedicated member of our school community to join the Governing Board as a Parent Governor. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the strategic direction of Delce and make a real difference in the lives of our children. More information below in the community section.

On Monday, Year 4 truly brought history to life with a captivating drama workshop based on the adventures of famous explorers. Their creative energy and acting talents were on full display, leaving everyone thoroughly impressed!

On a similar note of exploration, Year 3 and 4 children embarked on a delicious journey during a World Food Workshop delivered by our catering company Chartwells. The children not only learned about different cultures' culinary traditions but also had the opportunity to taste some of these delectable dishes themselves. This hands-on experience is a wonderful way to broaden their understanding of the world and foster a spirit of cultural appreciation.

We were also delighted to welcome our Trustees to Delce this week.  Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the warmth, nurture and enthusiasm displayed by both our adults and children in their learning journey.  Our active engagement strategies across the school were noted as a particular strength, showcasing the dedication and passion staff bring to their roles every day. It's truly inspiring to see such commitment to our pupils' growth and development. I'm thrilled to share that the visit has sparked excitement about the transformation journey we're embarking on this year at Delce. I couldn't be prouder of the team we have here at Delce. Their dedication ensures that our children have exactly what they need to thrive. Our See our Chair of Trustees, Andrew Lawrence's, tweet here.

At Delce, we are committed to providing a well-rounded education that extends beyond the textbook. As part of this philosophy, all classes embark on trips and have opportunities to experience different activities through workshops and visits from external speakers. These engaging experiences allow our children to interact with the world around them in a meaningful way, fostering a love of learning that goes far beyond the classroom walls.

We look forward to sharing more exciting news with you in the next newsletter!

'At Delce We Do Belong'

Our Core Value this term: PERSEVERANCE

The Undying Flame

Across the plains of doubt we tread,

Where shadows dance and hope seems fled.

The path is long, the wind bites keen,

But still we press, a steadfast mien.

For in our hearts a fire burns bright,

A yearning for a distant light.

Though storms may rage and trials test,

The will within us finds its rest.

Each step a triumph, though so small,

A victory that conquers all.

The weary muscles, spirit low,

Find strength renewed, a steady flow.

For perseverance is the key,

To unlock dreams for you and me.

It breaks the chains of fear and dread,

And lifts us where our spirits tread.

So let us on, with purpose true,

And see the journey carry through.

For though the road may twist and turn,

Perseverance's flame will ever burn.

To promote our core value of PERSEVERANCE, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.

This week’s recommendation is: Light

A short, three and a half minutes, film about a young inventor called Charly and her robot assistant Bob-e.  The opening of the film sees Charly try and fail to produce a new eco-friendly generator.  It takes many attempts and a little help from Bob-E in order to get the machine running.

You can also sing along at home with our Perseverance song

Inventors

I am so proud of all of you!

Inventors showed fantastic Delce Expectations while on their trip to the Guildhall.  We cemented our understanding of the Victorian Era through the workshops.

Year 3

This week in Year 3, we have been immersing ourselves in our reading texts.

The children have worked really hard on their retrieval from the text and using inference to explore the text deeply.

Year 4

Year 4 have explored how to create speech using inverted commas ready for writing their narratives next week.

We have also enjoyed our workshop exploring healthy eating.

Year 5

Year 5 had the amazing opportunity to learn from a fantastic freestyle footballer, Jamie Knight. Jamie was kind enough to perform for the children and then the children were able to showcase their new skills in front of the class. Learning new skills like the 'Blind Heel Flick' and 'Around the World'.

Year 6

This week, pupils in Year 6 have had the unique opportunity to participate in a skateboarding workshop with Rubicon Skateboarding. They thoroughly enjoyed their session - which had been previously postponed due to unexpected poor weather.

DEC

Chartwells ran a workshop for Jackson Class and we got to try food from 4 different countries. Noodles from China, salsa from Mexico, coconut rice and plantain chips from Africa and Samosa's from India. We enjoyed learning new things about food and different countries culture.

Uniform

At Delce, a well-presented uniform plays a valuable role in fostering a positive and unified learning environment.  Wearing a uniform promotes a sense of belonging and reduces distractions based on clothing, allowing everyone to focus on learning. It also creates a positive image for our school and instils pride in both children and staff.  Uniforms can be more practical and durable than everyday clothes, saving money on wardrobes.  Our pre-loved uniform program offers a budget-friendly option.  We kindly ask all parents to ensure their children wear the full and correct uniform, labelled with their name.

Additionally, while makeup and nail polish might be worn on weekends, we request they are not worn during the school week.

Regular school shoes are required, with trainers only permitted for PE lessons.

Enrichment
A message from Mr Minlah...

This term, there have been a range of after school clubs on offer to the children at Delce Academy, including: Football Club, Cooking Club, Clay Club, Sewing club, Arts and Crafts Club, Basketball Club, Knitting Club and may more.  We have also been visited by Rubicorn Skateboarding and Jamie Knight football skills freestyler who both delivered workshops to every class in the school.

Next term, year 3 will be attending swimming lessons at Sir Joseph Williamson Secondary School. These lessons will be delivered by H20 Swim.

This week we were visited by the chair of trustees, Andrew Lawrence who was very impressed and excited to hear about all the enrichment opportunities available at Delce Academy.

PUPIL LEADERSHIP

Progress in Focus

The JLT team came together this week to look into the progress of their current initiatives.  This was a great opportunity for everyone to share updates, discuss any roadblocks, and ensure all efforts are moving forward smoothly.

Friends of Delce Academy

Jumble Cafe: A Vibrant Hub of Activity!

It was truly delightful to witness numerous parents from our school community joining in and uncovering hidden treasures. With a diverse array of items ranging from clothes and toys to books and household essentials, there was something to suit every taste.

A heartfelt appreciation goes out to the Friends of Delce for their tremendous efforts in orchestrating such a successful event. Their dedication and enthusiasm were indispensable in making it all happen. And a special shoutout to everyone who graciously donated items and their time – your generosity is immensely valued!

The Jumble Cafe isn't just a gathering; it's an excellent opportunity to promote recycling and find fantastic bargains.

Family and Community Information

Parent-Teacher Meetings: Meaningful Conversations

This week's parent-teacher meetings offered an important platform to engage in discussions about your child's learning journey. We extend our gratitude to all the parents who participated in this event.

The teachers appreciated the chance to connect with you and provide valuable insights into your child's progress. These conversations not only allowed for a deeper understanding of your child's progress but also fostered stronger bonds between home and school.

If you have any additional questions or need further information, we encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher. Your active involvement in your child's education is greatly valued, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way.

A World on a Plate: The children Take a Bite Out of the World Food Workshop!

Tiny taste buds were tickled at a recent World Food Workshop! Year 3 and 4 children set sail on a delicious adventure to explore cuisines from around the world. This interactive workshop included learning about different cultures' favourite foods, getting stuck in with some simple food prep. The day no doubt ended with a yummy chance to try these international flavours, helping the children appreciate different cultures through the power of food!

Lights, Camera, Explorers! Y4 Stage Dramatic Workshop Finale

Year 4 children dived into the world of exploration during a recent workshop! They channelled their creativity by crafting a dramatic performance based on the lives of famous explorers. After putting their acting skills to the test, the young actors proudly presented their theatrical creation to their parents.
