Delce news from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been an incredibly busy and exciting week at Delce Academy, filled with enriching learning experiences and community engagement.

Our children have been fully immersed in the world of learning, particularly in Science, where they have been conducting fascinating experiments, igniting their curiosity and passion for discovery. The art lessons have been buzzing with creativity as our young artists have been exploring various artistic expressions, bringing their imagination to life on canvas. In Computing, our children have been busy creating captivating animations using online programmes, showcasing their innovative thinking. Additionally, discussions about leading a healthy lifestyle have been a focus, emphasising the importance of overall well-being in our children's lives.

Looking ahead, we have numerous Healthy Eating workshops planned for both parents and children. We encourage parents to check the dates below and actively participate in these informative sessions. It's a fantastic opportunity to gain practical insights into promoting a healthy lifestyle for the whole family.

A special highlight this week was the visit of Dan The Skipping Man, who brought boundless energy and enthusiasm to Delce over two days. The playgrounds echoed with laughter and joy as the children skipped away, promoting fitness and fun in a unique and engaging way.

Furthermore, we are delighted to announce the commencement of our after-school clubs this week. It has been heartwarming to see our children enthusiastically participating in a variety of clubs, each offering a unique set of activities and opportunities for personal growth. From sports to arts and crafts, our after-school clubs cater to a diverse range of interests, providing a well-rounded extracurricular experience.

In line with our commitment to fostering a strong school-community partnership, we are pleased to report the success of the parent workshops organised by the school. It is heartening to witness our parents actively participating in these sessions, gaining valuable insights into their child's education and development. These workshops serve as a testament to the collaborative effort between the school and our supportive community.

As we reflect on this vibrant week of learning and community engagement, we express our gratitude for your continued support. Together, we strive to create an environment where each child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Miss Stevens

'At Delce We Do Belong'

Our Core Value this term: KINDNESS

A Simple Act Of Kindness

By David Harris

A simple act of kindness
can stop a million tears.
A little hug
can give so much joy.
A letter now and then to someone
can save so many wasted years.
We should hold every moment precious
and help as many as we can
with a simple act of kindness
every now and then.
The world would be a better place
if we all cared a little more.
Imagine how many smiling faces
would greet us at the door
if we extended that helping hand
with a simple act of kindness
that could spread across many lands.

To promote our core value of KINDNESS, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.

This week’s recommendation is: Kindness makes me strongerby Elizabeth Cole.

You can also sing along at home with our Kindness Song

Inventors

This week, we have explored money, we have worked together to determine what coins we needed to make a certain amount of money.

Year 3

This week, Year 3 have explored the impact of stretching in RHE. They looked at a variety of different yoga poses and discussed why stretching is important and how it helps our bodies.

Year 4

Year 4 have enjoyed the skipping workshop this week where we learnt a range of skipping techniques.

In English, we have explored a range of biographies and what makes a successful one.

Year 5
Our Year 5 students have delved into the world of Claude Monet, absorbing inspiration from his iconic works. Through thoughtful study and hands-on practice, they have been honing their artistic skills by emulating Monet's unique techniques.

Year 6

This week, Year 6 have worked incredibly hard on their assessments - Miss. Chapman, Miss. Smith and Mr. Bristow are super proud of them!

In addition to this, we have began our artwork related to our core text, Stella by Starlight. We are taking inspiration from Sam Cannon and have produced a mood board based in their art.

DEC

This week, the DEC took part in a skipping workshop. We learnt to skip in different ways and built up rhythm. We really enjoyed the workshop.

DEC also enjoyed a visit from PC Rowen to talk about antisocial behaviour and what we need to do to keep safe.

Enrichment
A message from Mr Minlah...

This week, Delce Academy were visited by a company called Dan The Skipping Man, who delivered a skipping workshop to every class in the school over two days. The children really enjoyed the workshops and there has been a notable increase in participation in skipping at lunchtime this week since the workshops have taken place.

Family and Community Information

Considerate parking during drop-off and pick -up times.

We have recently observed some parking challenges near the school gates during morning drop-off, especially on zigzag lines and coned-off areas, even during quick child drop-offs.

We kindly ask for your support in refraining from parking in these designated zones to ensure the safety of our children and pedestrians. Parking or stopping in these areas poses potential dangers, including blocked sight-lines, traffic congestion, and difficulty for emergency vehicles to access the school premises swiftly.

Your consideration in adhering to these guidelines is greatly appreciated. Let's work together to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone during drop-off times.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school office. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

In light of recent news regarding measles, we feel it is important to provide crucial information to our school community. Measles is highly contagious, with studies indicating that 9 out of 10 unvaccinated children are at risk if exposed. The MMR vaccine, a key preventive measure. We urge parents to check their child's vaccination status and catch up through NHS services if necessary. It is essential to recognise symptoms and promptly contact healthcare providers in cases of suspected measles. For additional details, please refer back to our earlier email. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Online Safety

Save your junk!

During Internet Safety day, we will be inviting all parents in to help your children create their own new and improved pieces of technology, that will meet their needs better then what is already out there.

We are asking for your support in gathering your usable household waste.  We are hoping that you can collect and donate some of your waste plastic, cardboard, bottle tops, boxes etc, so that we have a range of resources to create our own new technology.

A polite reminder that these need to be clean and suitable for children to handle. In addition, we should not have containers that include nuts due to allergies.  Please can donations be handed to class teachers by Monday 5th November.

What do you know about keeping children safe online? -Kahoot quiz

We would like to invite you in on Monday 5th March at 3:00 for a short quiz and questions and answer session with Officer Rowan, to allow us to get a better understanding of your understanding of the role and responsibilities of keeping children safe online and not only the importance but also the impact this has on children's Mental Health, which also links to our Mental health week.

This will help us to tailor an online safety workshop to yourself on Tuesday 6th March at 3:00 after you have junk modelled with your child.
