Delce news from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

It was lovely welcoming back our children after the holiday break and to witness the joy and energy they brought with them. I hope you all had a wonderful time together during the break. The children had the opportunity to share their holiday adventures with us, and it was great to hear about the special moments and experiences they had during their time off.

I'm excited to share that we have started 2024 with a fresh approach to how we teach Reading at Delce. The children have fully embraced this daily, 45 minute lesson, and it's brilliant to see and hear their genuine excitement created in every classroom about reading! Year 6 are reading 'Skellig' by David Almond, Year 5 are reading 'The London Eye Mystery' by Siobhan Dowd and Year 4 are reading 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell, while Year 3 and Year 2 continue their Little Wandle approach to teaching phonics and fluency. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and it's a testament to the positive impact our efforts are having on their learning journey. Also, every child in the school has had their reading age assessed to allow us to closely match every child's reading book to their correct level to ensure engagement and challenge; at Delce we are fostering a love of reading to ensure all children can access their learning successfully.

Please visit X to share their enthusiasm and feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Your involvement is invaluable to us as we work together to foster a love for reading and learning.

As we are fast approaching the climax of Year 6, you will notice that there is movement and changes with regards to our in-class provision. This will include additional learning time and movement of children between classes for specific lessons. These strategies are being provided to ensure that all Year 6 children achieve their true potential and are ready for Year 7.

This term, we are placing a special emphasis on kindness. During our assembly on Monday, we engaged in a thoughtful discussion on how to "Colour our school with kindness." It is our collective goal to create an environment where every child feels supported, safe, valued, and encouraged to spread kindness throughout our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to a fantastic term ahead for your children and our school community.

Miss Stevens

'At Delce We Do Belong'

Our Core Value this term: KINDNESS

Kindness Rhymes in Every Sum

In a world of laughter, games, and cheer,

Where joy and kindness draw us near.

A magic spark in the things we share,

It's called kindness, beyond compare.

Like sunshine peeking through the day,

Kindness brightens our every way.

In words that dance and smile so bright,

It turns a frown to pure delight.

A helping hand, a hug so tight,

Kindness glows in the soft moonlight.

It's in the giggles, the high-fives too,

Growing like flowers, both red and blue.

Every friend, a treasure found,

Kindness makes our world go 'round.

With acts of goodness, big and small,

We spread kindness, like a bouncing ball.

So let's be kind, come rain or sun,

Like wishes made on a run.

In this world of rhyme and fun,

Kindness shines, we're all as one.

To promote our core value of KINDNESS, we would like to invite our Delce family to read a story together at home.

This week’s recommendation is: ‘Have You Filled A Bucket Today?’ by Carol McCloud

You can also sing along at home with our Kindness Song

With enthusiasm and determination, they have embraced the challenge of designing interactive and engaging digital experiences.

SEND

A message from our SENCO, Mr Palmer...

Mr. Palmer's Parent Drop Ins

Each week Mr. Palmer will be available 9am-10am every Friday in 15 minute slots to discuss any concerns.

If you would like one of the 15 Minute Slots to discuss something, please use the QR code below to access the booking system.

Mr Palmer's Top Tip this week!

Has your child struggled to come back to school after Christmas?

Get them tools to help themselves when they are becoming anxious such as breathing techniques or grounding. "Grounding involves looking for: 5 things they can see, 4 things they can hear, 3 things they can feel, 2 things can smell and 1 thing they can taste. This will help the child return to the moment and reduce their anxiety.

Please speak to Mrs Morrish, Mr Palmer or the office as soon as possible if you would like to be included in this course. We can still add people up until Wednesday next week!
