We decided in early 2025 to take down the IR-US Community website and invite you to stay in touch with us by following our LinkedIn page. We continue to believe that integrated thinking and reporting are critical for stable and prosperous companies. However, given current realities, we do not see a path to continuing operations using the same model.
The genesis of our community in 2017 was a conversation with Bob Laux after he took on the role as U.S. point person for the IIRC (note: lots of acronyms here - glossary and links below!). The goal was to complement institutional efforts with a grassroots community that would shine a light on the emerging integration practices of U.S. companies. We were able to do this thanks to the many companies who shared their experiences applying the Integrated Reporting Framework and the Integrated Thinking Principles. Recordings of many of our 50+ meetings are and will remain on our IR-US YouTube channel.
In recent years, there have been many changes in leadership in the international movement. The current priority internationally is implementation of IFRS S1 and S2 which they feel is a start toward integration and "connectivity." This effort is complemented by a temporary commission, the IRCC, which is hosting periodic meetings. The most recent meeting in Japan highlighted the adoption of integrated reporting by 1200+ Japanese corporations. Please consider signing up for updates from the IFRS on these efforts.
Funding for our site was provided by the IIRC but it was withdrawn after the merger with the IFRS. Since then, I have covered the costs through my own business. But this was never a solo effort. For many years, the community has benefited from the steadfast support of key people who each, through their diverse work, continue to support the advancement of the multi-capital model as well as integrated thinking and reporting. Please join me in thanking the committee (and linking in with us):
Elizabeth Castillo – Alex Gold – Bob Laux - Brad Monterio - Ros Roberts - Niki Shah - Paul Thompson - Ken Witt - Mary Adams
Paul Thompson and I will continue to share content on our IR-US LinkedIn page. Feel free to tag us with any relevant content you think would be helpful to our community.
On a personal note, I came to this movement (and first met Bob) through my work in the field of intangible capital. The intellectual/intangible capital movement provides a critical complement to the accounting and sustainability perspectives. All three perspectives are embodied in the integrated model. And all three are critical to a truly integrated, systems view of a successful organization. I'm excited to say that we've been able to operationalize this model in our agile strategy execution platform at Insights7. Our software enables teams across an organization to collaboratively shape the work they do and the value they create for their company, its customers and its stakeholders. We've seen amazing results when our clients equip and empower their people to work as value creators. Please reach out to me if you would like to learn more and/or share your experiences.
Many thanks to each of you who contributed to our programs and discussions over the years. I do not know what form our future conversations will take, but I am confident that the energy of our collective community will lead us to new conversations that advance the principles of integrated business management and reporting. With warm regards, Mary
