Q. Startup team eligibility.

At least one member of the core team of your startup should be connected to the University of Sydney as a:

  • Current undergraduate or postgraduate student
  • PhD candidate
  • Graduate or alumni
  • Researcher
  • Staff member

If no one in your team belongs to any of these categories, you may not be eligible to apply.

If you don’t fit into any of these categories but feel you should still be eligible to apply, please email us at to discuss your possible eligibility.

Q. Can your team commit to the program for the duration of the 14 weeks?

It is a requirement of the accelerator that a representative of your startup must work out of our co-working space at least 4 days a week for the 14-week program.

The co-working space is conveniently located at the University of Sydney’s Camperdown campus, on Level 4 of the Wentworth Building (next to the International Student Lounge).

Startups who do work out of our co-working space during business hours have access to our support staff and have further opportunities to learn, network, and improve. Not doing so could be detrimental to the success of your startup which is why we have this requirement.

Some exceptions can be made for special circumstances.

Q. How many people with equity share in the startup are in the team?

Co-founders are majority shareholders, and will have more than 20% ownership of the private company.

The number includes the individual filling out the application form (so if you and three other people are all co-founders with 20% ownership in the startup, then you would select ‘four (4)’).

Sole founders please select 'one (1)'.

Q. Please list any other co-founders or core team members here.

Detail any other people who are either co-founders (not including the person who is filling out the form) or who are part of your core team.

List the team member’s:

  • Name
  • Role within the team
  • Email address
  • Contact phone number
  • LinkedIn profile (optional)

Q. Has your startup received external funding or does it have revenue?

Please let us know if you have received funding from:

  • Investors (including angel investors)
  • Other accelerator programs
  • Other sources directly funding your startup

Or let us know if your startup has advanced far enough along that it has:

  • Has (paying) customers or users
  • Is generating revenue from any other source

It’s ok if your startup hasn’t gotten this far along yet, and if you don't have customers yet, your application will not be negatively affected. However, you will be expected to have paying customers by the time you graduate from the accelerator.

Q. Has anyone in your team founded a startup in the past?

This may be a startup that was not successful or is no longer in business.

Venture capital = capital invested in a project in which there is a substantial element of risk, typically a new or expanding business. (from Oxford dictionary)

Bootstrap = startup (an internet-based business or other enterprise) with minimal financial resources. (from Oxford dictionary)

Q. How many days per week are the founder/s currently committing to the startup?

List each founder, their role, and an approximate of how much time they are currently committing to the startup on a regular basis.

Eg: Kim Smith, CEO - 4 days a week; Casey Garcia, CTO - 1 day a week.

This is an estimate, but please be honest about how much time is being invested at the moment.

Q. What is one amazing thing you and/or your team has accomplished?

Include details about what makes your team different, your backgrounds, and skills. Let us know if anyone in your team has gained any special insights into the area your startup plans to enter.

Do: sell yourself with an example of an accomplishment that highlights your expertise in the field.

Don’t: tell us about an achievement that’s not related to your field.

If you’re struggling to think of an accomplishment, consider how your startup reached some of the milestones and how your team’s insights made this possible or think about a source of inspiration that led to your startup idea.
