He is a mechanical engineer with a PhD on machine design and process engineering. His main activity is focused on sample return missions, planetary protection issues and technological/process support to astrobiological experiments and space mission payloads.
He took part to Marco Polo and Marco Polo-R proposed sample return space mission concept studies. This work was aimed to define the structural and technical requirements for a storage and curation facility. He was involved as support coordinator in EURO-CARES H2020 research project, aiming to define a roadmap for a European Sample Curation Facility (ESCF), designed to curate samples returned from Solar System exploration missions.
Now he works into the AstroBio CubeSat (ABCS) design and optimization group. ABCS is a 3U cubesat hosting a mini laboratory payload based on lab-on chip technology, suitable for research in the life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceutical technologies sectors
Interests: astrobiology, planetary protection, sample receiving and curation facilities, space missions, usability of interfaces, mechanical design, process engineering.
