P.E. Elective


Expectations

1. Be Safe: All students are expected to be safe with their body and PE equipment.

2. Respectful: Students should be respectful to all students and the teacher.

3. Responsible: Students are expected to follow directions during instruction and activity.

4. Participate: Actively participate in class.

5. Have FUN participating while being safe, respectful and responsible.

School expectations, as outlined in the Handbook, are expected to be followed.

Grading

Students will earn grades in the P.E. elective based on Immacolata’s grading scale, which can be found in the Handbook.

Grading will be point based and will include the following:

ü Daily grade (rubric below)

ü Health lessons

ü Assignments

Each class period (daily grade) students have the opportunity to earn 10 points. Points will be earned as outlined below. When a student does not meet expectations points will be removed.

1 point = coming into gym appropriately and sitting in squad and/or following directions

2 points = showing respect to all classmates and teacher

2 points = following directions during instruction and activity, participating in activity the way it is intended to be played

3 points = actively participates in class for duration of activity

2 points = cooperates and puts forth best effort

Students that are in the P.E. elective will meet daily for the quarter. If a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive school days, the student will be required to complete an alternate assignment. For every 3 school days missed the student will complete one alternate assignment. For example, 6 consecutive school days would need 2 alternate assignments.

Alternate Assignments due to Absence

Students that are in the P.E. elective will meet daily for the quarter. If a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive school days, the student will be required to complete an alternate assignment. For every 3 school days missed the student will complete one alternate assignment. For example, 6 consecutive school days would need 2 alternate assignments.



  1. Physical Activity: Participate in physical activity for 20-25 minutes. Your activity should be video recorded and submitted as a time-lapse video. The type of physical activity is your choice - some suggestions include practicing sports skills, cardio fitness, yoga, participating along with an exercise video, etc.

** This option may be repeated by creating a new video. **

  1. *Athlete Timeline: Select a professional athlete and create a timeline of major events related to his/her professional career. The timeline should include at least 10 major events, be sure to list the event and date of the event (birth, death, birthdays, etc. are not considered major events related to the professional career). Include a short description (3-4 complete sentences) as to why you selected the athlete.

  2. *Athlete Biography: Select an athlete - professional or amateur - to write a 1 page biography. The biography should include information that is related to the person’s athletic career. The paper should be typed using size 11 Ariel font, single spaced and 1 inch margins. Be sure to list your sources. The paper should be written using your own words.

  3. Sports Participation: What are the benefits of participating in sports? Using at least 2 different sources, type a 1 page paper (size 11 Ariel font, single spacing, 1 inch margins) explaining the benefits of youth sports participation. Be sure to list your sources. The paper should be written using your own words.

  4. Physical Activity 2: Why is physical activity important for your health? Using at least 2 different sources, type a 1 page paper (size 11 Ariel font, single spacing, 1 inch margins) explaining the importance of physical activity. Be sure to list your sources. The paper should be written using your own words.
