Research Assistant Monitoring Impacts of Seaweed Harvesting

with the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT)

GMIT is a higher education institute with a broad range of focuses. I am working specifically within the Marine and Freshwater Research Centre whose main aim is “to enhance the management of marine and freshwater ecosystems worldwide”, with research starting in the 1980’s. The aim can further divided into 3 outcomes which are to “enable sustainability”, “conserve biodiversity” and to “improve productivity. Research is often in collaboration with agencies and industries invested in marine/freshwater resources, to help their functioning whilst also focusing on the state of the environment and potential impacts of the anthropogenic activities being carried out.
