We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, whose mission is to create, enhance and protect great places to ride mountain bikes. We've been doing this work since our inception in 1988.
Why Trails?
A well-planned natural surface trail network results in improved public health, positive economic impacts, increased youth engagement, community building, and an important connection to nature. Trails preserve natural spaces and inspire visitors to care for them.
Singletrack trails (and bike-optimized park facilities) encourage access for a range of trail users and riders, from neighborhood children to the occasional enthusiast or the serious athlete. These amenities become a valued part of people's lives and communities.
WHY Mountain biking?
Mountain biking doesn't have to be the impetus for new trail development, but increasingly, it's a vital part of the process. Riding a bike in the woods or desert provides an irresistible blend of stress relief, connection to nature, exercise, exhilaration and skill development — experiences that appeal to people of all ages. As a result, mountain bikers are often the user group asking for new trails. They might want diverse options for their own enjoyment as well as a trail their kids can enjoy. But beyond mountain biking, these trails benefit the whole community by providing recreational opportunities for everyone, preserving land, and creating an economic driver for local businesses, especially if the trail system sees tourist visitation. Additionally, local mountain bike clubs provide critical support for trails once they are built, through volunteer trail work and rallying the community through rides, events and skills clinics.
