Here's What We Know
According to the District's most recent Budget Presentation (page 25), CARES Act and ARPA Funding, "are intended to support, not supplant/replace General Fund activities."
The Community School Organizers have supported nearly every facet of CCSD's operations and it's time for the district to make appropriate steps to ensure the seamless transition of operations for this department after the June 2024 expiration of ARPA funding.
What we know:
The department was funded through a very small percentage of Federal Pandemic Relief Funding (Cares Act and ARPA) for a period of three years. (Source)
Staff in this department have been informed by district leadership that they will no longer have a position in the district after June 2024, the end of the FY24 fiscal year.
Community School Organizers are likely to leave their positions as soon as they find other employment to ensure economic security for their own families.
District leadership has also instructed the department to not backfill positions as people leave their positions. This means that programming in this department will be left without staff to implement.
It appears that the district is attempting to slowly strangle the department over the course of the school year to justify not allocating resources when the funding expires in June 2024.
