The vision of MCJROTC is to cultivate brave, character-focused young adults who demonstrate personal responsibility and accountability, preparing them to become exemplary citizens dedicated to serving the United States. In collaboration with school administrators, we aim to maintain the Marine Corps JROTC Program as a respected educational and co-curricular resource in high schools, while establishing it as the leading program for youth leadership and character development within both the Department of Defense and our local school district.
Q. What does our program do?
The MCJROTC program helps students develop important qualities like patriotism, responsibility, and respect for authority. It focuses on building personal honor, self-reliance, discipline, and leadership skills, while also teaching about national security and the military as a possible career. The program encourages community service, supports students in graduating high school, and promotes living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Overall, MCJROTC helps students grow into responsible, informed individuals and strong leaders.
Q. What are the benefits of MCJROTC?
The MCJROTC program offers numerous benefits to students. About 60% of graduating seniors in the program go on to pursue higher education. It provides an opportunity to learn about national security and understand personal responsibilities as Americans. The program helps improve the image of the military in the community by offering success to young people. While focused on military training, it encourages individuality, initiative, and the development of personal qualities like self-control, responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and dedication. MCJROTC cadets tend to have higher self-esteem, better behavior, improved attendance, and serve as role models for avoiding substance abuse. They also develop positive life skills, graduate at higher rates, and become an excellent source of recruits for the military. The values and discipline taught in MCJROTC promote productive, positive behaviors. The program motivates students to graduate high school and rewards those who complete at least three years of MCJROTC with advanced promotion when enlisting in the Navy, Air Force, Army, or Marine Corps. Additionally, cadets who finish two years of the program are eligible for early enlistment benefits, and each year, the Senior Marine Instructor can nominate up to three cadets to compete for appointments to the U.S. Naval Academy.
