Junior Collector's Day Information

Interested in submitting your collection for Virtual Junior Collector's Day?

Are you ages 6-16 with a collection you are proud of? Share it with others through the Illinois State Museum's Virtual Junior Collector's Day on March 6! We will be sharing your photos and videos on the Family Fun website and on Illinois State Museum Facebook page!

Collections can be submitted as either photographs or a short video.

When you film your video and write your description of your collection, be sure to include these things:

  • Name (first name only)

  • Age (optional)

  • Hometown (optional)

  • Name of object/collection type

  • Why your object has meaning to you/what is your object's story

Submit photo(s) and videos by Wednesday, March 3rd using the link below.

If you submit a photograph:

  • Take a photo of your entire collection, and a photo of your favorite object.

  • Write a short paragraph (no more than 250 words) about your collection and favorite object.

  • You are not required to appear in your photo(s)!

If you submit a video:

  • Videos should be no more than 2 minutes in length (videos may be edited for length)

  • Show your entire collection, then highlight your favorite object.

  • Write a sentence or two describing your collection.

  • You are not required to appear in your video!

Things to consider when talking about your collection and favorite object:

  • Object and/or collection description: What is your collection made up of? What is this object? What does it look like? What colors does the object have? What shape is it?

  • Object and/or collection history: When did you start collecting? Where did you get this object? How long have you had it? Who gave it to you? How did you receive this object?

  • Personal feelings about your collection and/or the object: What does this object mean to you? Is there a memory you’d like to share about your collection?
