Intellectual Property Rights Cell, IIT Ropar

IPR cell of IIT Ropar aims to support filing and learning of IPRs to the community. The team has excellent group of members supported by strong staff support for searching, filing and commercializing any IPRs. The manufacturers are requested to contact the IPR Cell for licencing, tech transfer and leasing of IPRs.

Intellectual Property Rights

Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) are legal monopolistic rights conferred by the Government to inventors or creators of intellectual Property in industrial, scientific, literary & artistic fields in lieu of complete disclosure of the same. IPRs are territorial rights and there is no global patent.

Types of IPRs that IPR cell supports:

Patent : Protects Inventions eg. mobile phone technology, mechanical devices
Copyright: Protects expression of Ideas in tangible form eg. books, music, software
Trademark: Protects indication of source of goods or services eg. Pepsi, IBM
Design: Protects outer appearance of a trade article eg. car designs, phone designs
Geographical Indication: Protects geographic source of goods eg Phulkari, Kullu Shawl
New Plant Variety: Protects new plant variety eg new wheat variety
Semiconductor layout Design: Protects layout design of semiconductors
Trade Secrets: Protects know-how, non-patentable inventions eg. Coca-Cola Recipe
