About the Symposium
The Graduate Engineering Materials Symposium (GEMS) is a unique initiative designed specifically for students in the field of Materials Engineering for showcasing their research from their project work.
Any student in the final year of a 4 year BTech/BE/BS program or in the final year of their MTech/MSc program are eligible to participate and showcase their work in this symposium. Those who have graduated and are working in the industry are also eligible to attend.
The symposium format makes it unique - we will have a series of short keynote talks from eminent faculty who will be highlighting the cutting-edge research directions and spotlight presentations from the participant. A spotlight presentation consists of a 3 minute, single slide speech which is designed to increase the audience's interest in their work. Supplementing the spotlights will be a poster session that immediately follows the spotlight! Get into the spotlight, pitch your work and then interact with the participants and faculty during the poster session intensively. In addition to the symposium, we will be having fun contests, lab visits and interactions with industry personnel.
Multiple awards will be given, based on the Spotlight and Poster sessions!
About the Department
The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering consists of 40+ PhD students, approximately 100 undergraduate students and 11 faculty members. We work on diverse areas of materials engineering ranging from semiconductors to steel, from aircraft materials to biological materials. We make materials that matter to the society! Come visit us and explore the endless possibilities that materials engineering has to offer!
Research programs in our department are enthralling. Join us as a PhD student or as an MTech student in July!
