The Design Research Laboratory (DRL), established in 2012 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Ropar, is an interdisciplinary research facility dedicated to advancing engineering design, innovation, and sustainability. Its research focuses on product design and development, design creativity, design methodology, sustainable manufacturing, engineering aesthetics, automotive design, agricultural systems, Industry 4.0/5.0, supply chains, innovation, and entrepreneurship. DRL integrates experimental research, digital technologies, prototyping, and industry collaboration to develop design methodologies, decision-support tools, intelligent systems, and sustainable products. The laboratory also supports undergraduate and postgraduate education while promoting human-centred, responsible, technology-enabled, and impactful engineering solutions.
