Project Title: Characterization and Studies of Nd-oxide rich slag phase obtained from pyrometallurgical recycling of NdFeB magnets
Details: End-of-life NdFeB magnet scraps are emerging as potential secondary source of rare earth element Nd with the growing demand and digitalization. Various researchers have approached the recovery of Nd from the magnet scarps using complex hydrometallurgical routes, or combination of pyrometallurgical roasting follwed by hydrometallurgical extraction. However, to make the process scalable and economical a large scale pyrometallurgical smelting is one of the promising route. The Project will involve studies the slag obatined by pyrometallurgical smelting for its composition, structure, characteristics, and properties, in order to derive the slag in form of potential rare-earth oxide based ceramic applications.
Duration: June 01 to Jun 30, 2026
