Who am I ??🐼
I am an astronomer and currently an NRF/SNSF postdoctoral fellow at Rhodes University, South Africa. I have completed my PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, India. My primary research interest lies in the large-scale radio emissions that are observed in galaxy clusters. These sources are broadly classified as radio halos and radio relics. I study the origin of those megaparsec scale emissions using radio observations from telescope facilities like uGMRT, VLA, LOFAR, and MeerKAT. These large scale diffuse synchrotron emission directly traces the particle acceleration and magnetic field in the intra-cluster medium. My work focuses on understanding the origin of radio halos and relics with multi-wavelength observations using radio, X-ray and optical data. I am currently exploring machine-learning techniques to generate observation-driven mock datasets. Apart from this, I am also interested in the study of odd radio Circles (ORC).
When not exploring the universe, I'm out exploring on Earth. I belong from Bengal, the Eastern part of India. I love traveling places and exploring new cultures, cuisines and people. The creative Swarna loves dancing and painting and is often found making caricature of her friends. Some glimpses of my artistic outcome can be located on my social media pages. I also love playing badminton and swimming.
