Vineet Gairola is a Ph.D. candidate in Psychology at the Department of Liberal Arts, Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, researching the ritual journeys of Devī-Devtās (Hindu deities) in the Garhwal Himalaya and the transformative experience of divine embodiment/divinization of bakkyās (oracles/diviners) through ethnography. During his Ph.D. tenure, Vineet has received 21 awards, delivered 25 international conference presentations, and published 49 works, including 32 book reviews, 4 book chapters, and 5 articles in esteemed journals. He is the Book Review Editor of Springer’s Journal of Dharma Studies (2025-Present), the International Relations Committee (IRC) member of the American Psychological Association (Division 39), and the Student Development Committee member of the Psychotherapy Division of APA, Div 29. Vineet was selected for the Emerging Psychologists Programme (EPP) as one of the top 40 Emerging Psychologists by the International Congress of Psychology (ICP, Prague). He is the winner of the Division 39 Scholars Award 2025 by the American Psychological Association (APA, Div 39), the Excellence in Research Award by IIT Hyderabad (2022 and 2024), the Social Justice Task Force Research Grant from Division 36 of the APA, the Student Grant Competition by the Association for Psychological Science (APS), Dr. Lillian Comas-Diaz Student Diversity Paper Award 2023 from APA (Division 29), the Stephen Mitchell Award given by the APA (Division 39), the Psychoanalytic Research Exceptional Contribution Award by the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), the Student Research Award 2021 from APA Division 36. He has taken part in more than 25 International Conferences and has published 32 book reviews and other works in Himalaya, Journal of Dharma Studies, Psychoanalytic Psychology, Contemporary South Asia, International Journal of Hindu Studies, Fieldwork in Religion, Religions of South Asia, Religion, Journal of Asian Studies, International Journal of Asian Studies, among others with book chapters published by Springer and Routledge. Additionally, he is a dancer and a musician for the past 20 years and has a band named Araadhak.
