National Supercomputing Mission Workshop for Training in Computational Fluid Dynamics
at IIT Hyderabad
From 19 June 2023 to 24 June 2023
About the Workshop
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an integral part of the design process in a wide variety of industries, ranging from pharmaceuticals, energy to aerospace, automotive and defense. Research in CFD also spans several engineering and science departments. Despite its extensive application and utility in academia and industry, a typical post-graduate curriculum has only one course in CFD. Some institutes offer a second, follow-up, course in CFD. Experience suggests that there is a gap between one or two introductory courses in CFD and its application as a cutting-edge tool. A good CFD practitioner requires knowledge in three disparate streams, namely applied mathematics, fluid physics and computer science or parallel programming. The last aspect is most often ignored in CFD coursework studied by a typical postgraduate student. Similarly, students often are exposed to theoretical aspects of CFD but do not get sufficient experience writing CFD codes by themselves.
This workshop aims to bridge the gap between CFD theory that is taught to students in a typical postgraduate course and the practical experience required to become a good CFD practitioner. In particular, we will focus on helping students write good quality CFD codes.
