1) Posters
Do you ever walk into your room after classes hoping to gear up for the next task at hand but simply are not motivated to do so? Posters may be the best accessory for you to breathe some life and energy into your room. You can have them themed on your favourite movie, your favourite tv character or just some motivational quotes to keep you going. Posters have been around for a long time and easily one of the best decor items in terms of variety, availability and time required for installation.
2) Lights
College rooms usually come only with a standard tube or LED installed - which may not be enough to capture the gamut of your emotions and moods. One often feels the room to be too bright with them and too dark without. Having your own lighting fixtures helps you find the grey between the mundane white and black. Lighting fixtures also double up as celebratory embellishments for any occasion - be it a birthday or just the end of term parties.
3) Wall Stickers
Many of us have had the pleasure of drawing on walls at our homes. While that certainly has its creative charm, it may not always be possible (or even allowed) in your hostel rooms. Wall stickers are the perfect way to bridge this gap. Most wall stickers today are easily applicable and come with the assurance of a clean removal (so no fines for you!). Wall stickers can be like your very own graffiti which makes your room go from bland to 'happening' within a matter of minutes.
4) Cushion Covers
No hostel room is complete without cushions and pillows. All of us, at some point or other, have resorted to snuggling in with our pillows and cushions on the days we feel down. What better idea than to adorn those with customized and themed covers - with your favourite anime or scenic images to uplift your mood.
5) Plants
Here is a way to decorate your room and make it more lively (quite literally!) in an eco-friendly way. While you may not be allowed to bring or keep pets in your room, tending to and taking care of a plant is as close you can get to the experience. Greenery in your room is sure to brighten up your worst days and what's more - it's the most non-damaging accessory you can have - not only will you be not be prohibited from decorating your room, but chances are you'll be actively encouraged to do so.
6) Photo Collage
For many of us, the hostel experience can be quite a dreary one at first. The sheer realization of living away from your near and dear ones is enough to make anyone feel gloomy. Photo collages are the easiest and best way to alleviate these sombre feelings - having pictures of your parents, siblings and favorite cousins makes you feel right at home. Photo collages can be the pin-up type on the wall or can spruce up your study table to keep you going.
