If you aren’t able to share this year please save the date to come out and attend! February 27, 2024 from 6:30-8pm in the gym.

Continuing with our celebration of all, IHM staff is excited to bring the IHM Cultural Showcase for the first time this year. We are hoping to showcase the diversity of our school community through a sharing of the family cultures and traditions represented at IHM. Is your family of Polish descent? Perhaps you have music to share. Does your family represent German, Japanese, India, Egyptian, or any other culture? Whatever cultural background your family celebrates we want you to share it with IHM. Please consider celebrating your family's background with the greater school community, All families participating will have a table in the gym and an opportunity to highlight their own family heritage in any way they wish. Some ideas could include sharing a family tradition, a unique dance, music, song, food, holiday, clothes or textile, etc. As little or as much as you would like to share would be welcomed. This is an event we plan to hold annually and hopefully see grow over time.

Parent Presentation

We are grateful to have been able to reschedule our parent presentation, originally scheduled

for October, with Mrs. Danyele Dove. She will be joining us on Thursday evening, February 22, 2024 at 6:30 pm in the

lower hall. As a reminder, Mrs. Dove is a school counselor at Archmere and has been working with our faculty and staff

over the last year. She will be talking about diversity, celebrating our differences and accepting all. She will be speaking

within the teaching of our Catholic faith.

Good afternoon Fourth Grade Families,

Today students are coming home with a flyer from our 8th graders who are having a pizza fundraiser. Families may order slices of pizza on several dates including our field trip day on Friday, January 12th. As stated in our permission slip, fourth graders will be eating a late lunch in the classroom on this day and will need a complete lunch (napkins, utensils, snacks etc.) since we will not be going to the cafeteria. Fortunately, the 8th graders will be able to hold pizza for us to eat when we return.

Pizza order forms are due January 10th!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

A note from Mrs. Morroni about afternoon carline

Parents - A few very important reminders about afternoon carline/dismissal.

*The playground is closed during the afternoon carline. We cannot have students and parents playing on the playground and then trying to get back to cars or worse cross the moving car line. Additionally, in nice weather our aftercare often immediately transitions to the playground.

*Pets, especially dogs, are not allowed at afternoon pick up. There are too many people in too small of a space to accommodate pets. Some parents and students are not comfortable around animals and not all pets get along with one another. For the safety of all please do not bring pets to the afternoon carline.

*Please ensure that once you have picked your child(ren) up from their teacher that they remain with you unless they are running back inside the school building. Once the bell rings the carline begins almost immediately and all children need to be with guardians in their vehicles.

Thank you for your assistance in keeping everyone safe.

Blessings

Tina Morroni

Good afternoon IHM Families

Dropping in with an end of week update.

1.Just in case you missed the Veterans Day sign up link in the last few Newsletters, the link is here.  Our Veterans Day assembly is next Friday. If you have family members or other special guests that wish to attend please make sure they RSVP at this link by the end of the day tomorrow, Friday November 3, 2023. Our team of teachers organizing the event need to ensure enough tables, treats, and activities for our students and guests for the morning.

2. Our Student Council and the IHM Santa Maria Chapter of the Knights of Columbus are once again collecting new and/or gently used coats for distribution in the area. If you have any gently worn and outgrown coats please send them in with your child and they will be collected by the Student Council over the next week. Thank you

3. And lastly…. You’ve seen it on the calendar… You heard about it during Back to School Night…Now is the time… the 3rd IHM Read A Thon officially kicks off tomorrow. We are so excited and looking forward to another wonderful Read A Thon. For families new to IHM, the Read a Thon is an every other year fundraiser, organized by HSA, that runs for 2 weeks. It gets students excited about reading! Students and families can choose to participate as little or as much as they wish. Some families may select to participate only in the reading/logging of minutes, other families may select to only be involved in the donations, while others participate in both aspects of the event. In the past we have raised between $40,000-60,000 so it has been very successful.

There will be lots of winners! Just as in the past, there will be winners for students reading and logging minutes as well as winners for students raising money. Small prizes such as gift cards, gift certificates, HS Swag and other items will be pulled every afternoon from students with minutes logged since the previous day or money raised since the previous day. Grand prize winners (the most money raised and the most minutes read) at various grade clusters will have the chance to win Apple watches, game systems, tablets. etc.

The Read A Thon kicks off tomorrow. Your child should have already brought home a sheet with a QR code and a website for setting up their page. Our first goal is for 100% page set up participation. Even if students don't log minutes or even if students don't collect any money - the company will give us as an organization extra money if we have 100% page set up. Everyone that  sets up by tomorrow afternoon (the first day of the Read A thon) will be entered for a chance at a $100 gift card. To be drawn during our Kick off assembly tomorrow.

The Kick off assembly is tomorrow afternoon at 2pm with a brief assembly in the gym. Students will get the chance to hear about logging their minutes, learn about some of the prizes they can win, and get excited about reading so they can earn prizes. In years past the HSA sponsored a Pop Up 'TAG" Day to kick off our two weeks of reading fun! The funds from tomorrow’s pop up TAG Day will feed the money machine that all participating students (minutes logged and donations collected) will get a chance in a drawing to get into and win money.

As always we are grateful to HSA for all of their support. We would not be able to do what we do if it were not for all of the support of the HSA and each of you parents supporting the HSA! Please feel free to reach out to Amber Acaro (hsa@ihm.org or ambermarie343@yahoo.com)  with any questions about Read A Thon.

E-mail sent Thursday, 10/12/23 RE: Sojourner's Donations

Good Afternoon,

As part of our school outreach program, each grade selects an organization to work with and raise funds for. The 4th grade outreach organization is Sojourners' Place.

Sojourners' Place provides shelter and a variety of services for homeless men and women that empowers the residents to return to the community as independent citizens. Twice a year in the Fall and Spring we collect much needed items for the residents.

This year for our Fall collection we are gathering the following things from their wish list:

Any donation you can make to our collection is VERY much appreciated.  Please send donations to school with your student beginning Monday, October 16th until Monday, October 30th.

.

God bless.

Miss Clark and Mrs. Falkenburg

Welcome back for the 2023-2024 school year.  We are so very excited to meet everyone and see the rooms full of students again. On the first day of school on Wednesday, we will do a lot of getting to know you activities, having fun, and organizing supplies. To help make the first few days a smooth transition here is some important information:

1. Bring your water bottles (label with name) and pack a snack every day.

2. Supplies - Please label all stationary supplies (unwrapped) with your child's name. It is very helpful to place loose items in a ziplock bag for carrying and storage. We will store extra supplies for use later in the year. Please note that students will be using hooks to store their backpacks and coats.

If you are able to attend the supply drop off time on Monday from 10:00-11:00, please place supplies on your child’s desk. Large items like ziplock bags, paper towels, wipes etc., can be placed on the side table.

Mrs. Falkenburg room 4-2

Ms. Clark room 4-3

3. Summer homework - completed math packets are due by Monday, September 5th. This will be graded as a test score.

4. Specials - Ms. Clark’s class will have gym on Tuesdays. Mrs. Falkenburg’s class will have gym on Thursdays. Students should arrive at school in their gym uniform (see handbook for uniform guidelines) on these days.

5. Switching classes - Ms. Clark will be teaching ELA, reading, and social studies. Mrs. Falkenburg will be teaching math, science, and religion. We will both support RTI and DI (direct instruction) times.

6. Please fill out this questionnaire so we can learn a little bit more about your child (you may need to copy and paste the link)

https://forms.gle/RaVVLJpeUsPN9vU67

We will go into more details about curriculum and classroom expectations at our Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 6th and 6:00pm. We hope everyone has a relaxing weekend.
