There are several different offensive alignments that our Motion can take depending on our personnel. We may use the varying alignments for some of the following reasons:
50 Alignment:
Five players on the court who have good perimeter skills
You want to extend the defense and open up the paint
Can be used for a delay game
You don’t have a true post player
It can be used to open up driving gaps for slashers
The "flank" player should be spaced high and wide
Players can fill the dunker spot temporarily during a possession if their role is defined as such
50 Flank Alignment
41 Alignment:
You have a skilled post player
You have a great post screener
You want a permanent dunker
You want to maintain a more open spacing on the perimeter
41 Alignment
41 High Alignment:
You have a skilled post player who is a good screener and is a threat to make a play after popping to the perimeter
You want to pull away a great shot blocker from the basket
41 High Alignment
