Pistol Series is a variety of actions that our team can in our Motion Offense as transition, entries, or within the flow. The following actions can be used as reads by our players on the fly or can be calls we make ahead of time. All of the spots on the floor are interchangeable. Finally, Pistol Series actions can be completed on both sides of the floor depending on where the ball is brought up.
#1 brings the ball up in to the wing
#1 passes to #2
#1 sprints towards #2 and receives a handoff
#1 drives
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)
Interchange
Circle movement
Hold and space
#1 can drive and score off the initial handoff
The weak side screen action can create a scoring option
Drive/kick off the drive from #1
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#1 brings the ball up to the wing
#1 passes to #2
#1 sprints towards #2 and receives a handoff
#1 drives
#2 receives a flare screen from #5
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)
Interchange
Circle movement
Hold and space
#5 can also set a ball screen for #1 after the flare screen (Pistol Chase Flare Follow)
#1 can drive and score off the initial handoff
The weak side screen action can create a scoring option
Drive/kick off the drive from #1
#3 coming off the flare screen
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#1 brings the ball up to the wing
#1 passes to #2
#1 sprints towards #2 and receives a handoff
#2 and #5 set a 77 ball screen screen for #1
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)
Interchange
Circle movement
Hold and space
#1 can drive and score off the initial handoff
You can score on the pick and roll
You can score on the off ball screens
#1 can drive and kick it to the wing for a shot
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#1 passes to #2
#1 cuts past #2 into the corner, faking a handoff
#5 sets a ball screen for #2
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)
Interchange
Circle movement
Hold and space
You can score on the pick and roll
You can score on the off ball screens
#3 can drive and kick it to the wing for a shot
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#1 passes to #2
#1 cuts past #3 into the corner, faking a handoff
#4 and #5 set a 77 ball screen for #2
You can score on the pick and roll
You can score on the off ball screens
#3 can drive and kick it to the wing for a shot
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#1 receives a ball screen from #2
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)

#1 can score on the drive off the ball screen
#2 can score on the pop after he sets the ball screen
We can score off the screen actions off the ball
If no options are open, flow into Motion, Pistol Dribble Flare, or Pistol Dribble Hammer
#1 receives a ball screen from #2
#5 screens #2
#5 can finish the set with a ball screen for #1
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)
Interchange
Circle movement
Hold and space
You can score on the any of the screens or pick and rolls
#2 can score off the flare screen from #5
#1 can drive and kick it to the wing for a shot
You can score off the weak side screening action
You can score off the optional ball screen
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#1 receives a ball screen from #2
#5 screens #2
#5 sets a re-screen ("Ricky") for #2 and then dives to the basket
While that action is happening, the weak side players can complete the following actions:
Down screen
Flare screen (Hammer action)
Interchange
Circle movement
Hold and space
You can score on the any of the screens or pick and rolls
#2 can score off the flare screen from #5 or the Ricky screen
#1 can drive and kick it to the wing for a shot
You can score off the weak side screening action
If no options are open, flow into Motion
#4 steps up from the corner to receive a pass
#1 passes to #4
They complete Pistol Chase action, with #1 cutting behind #4
#4 keeps the ball
#5 flashes to the top of the key
#2 cuts towards the wing, then to the block
#4 passes to #5
#5 completes a DHO with #3
#5 sets a down screen for #2
#2 cuts to the wing - on the cut it should look like #2 is screening for #3
#5 slips to the rim
Note: this is great action vs. a tag (#2) or switching defenses
You can score on any read
The main optoins are hitting #2 for a three point shot or passing to #5 on the slip
