The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) have long supported refugees and migrants based on their understanding of Jewish and Christian writing. At the heart of our faith is the knowledge that every person is created in the image of the Divine, and there is a divine spark in each person. Therefore, each human is deserving of love, respect and care as they walk this world. Reference.
Caring for the sojourners, refugees and immigrants has been one of the long-standing ministries for Quakers. Given our history and concerns, the Quakers in Richmond, IN have been called to walk along beside those refugees and immigrants caught in the upheaval and turmoil of our times. We seek to accompany each other in different ways as we recognize the challenges and opportunities of our time. If you feel a call, nudge, or just a plain “kick in the backside,” we invite you to join us.
"Jesus himself came up and walked along with them." -Luke 24:15
What we do?
At the core of what we do is to be in solidarity through accompaniment with our immigrant brothers and sisters. Whether we do it in times of emergency through supporting with detention center visitations, raising funds for legal fees or any other need that may arise, first and foremost we want to be present and walk along you.
