From the 9th to 13th May, 2022

in Mamer (Luxembourg)

Day 1

On Monday, 9th May we started our trip to Luxembourg. It was Europe Day, a public holiday in Luxembourg, so a day off at school.

We left Baza at 5 a.m and we took the plane in Málaga at 9:40am. At 12:40pm we arrived at Luxembourg airport but it took us a little longer than expected to leave the airport because Miguel's suitcase got damaged. Our host families were already waiting for us at the airport and then we went to eat with them.

In the afternoon we all met in a park and played some games and we also got to know the city a little more. At the end of the day we had dinner at our homes and went to sleep because we were very tired.

Day 2

Tuesday was our first day at school. All the groups introduced themselves and made the presentation of their country and school. After a short break we went to the sports hall to practice climbing. When we finished, we had lunch in the school canteen and finally we watched a movie about what the Second World War was like in Luxembourg.

At the end of the movie “Heim ins Reich”, there was time for questions and a short discussion. After that, each of us went with our host families and they took us to visit the city center and some other interesting places.

day 3

On Wednesday we met at the National Museum of History and Art to visit a temporary exhibition about the colonial past of Luxembourg.

After the visit, there was time to ask questions to the curator of the temporary exhibition we had visited. We also had some free time to eat. We all went to an Italian restaurant next to the museum.

Then, we took a guided tour named “ Luxembourg during the World War II” and we visited some of the relevant places of that historic period, including the headquarters of the Gestapo.

In the afternoon, we went together to a laser tag game.

Day 4

On Thursday morning, we visited the National Resistance Museum in the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette, the second largest city in Luxembourg and one of the three European Culture Cities in 2022 .Then we went on a guided city tour and we discovered the memories of the city during World War II ( also called Second World War). Later, we had some free time to eat.

Afterwards, we went to the steelworking plant of Beval, which is the area where the steel used in some of the most important buildings in the world used to be produced.

Finally, in the afternoon we went bowling and we had a great time!

Day 5

On Friday, our last day in Josy Barthel High School, we entered the classroom at 8:15 and a few minutes later the teachers began to explain to us the task for the day: to create a padlet on the topic assigned and prepare a few questions for a kahoot quiz to check how much our partners had learnt about the topics studied this week. After half an hour of explanation we started to work on the padlets, but first we were divided into international groups. We were working on the padlets until 11:30. Just before having lunch at the school canteen, we went to a sort of party organized by the people who were going to finish school this year.

In the afternoon, we went back to the classroom and we presented the padlets. There was also time for a kahoot quiz and for evaluation. Everything went well and we all had fun working in groups.

One of the main highlights of the day was the escape room games we took part in. There were different games, my team for example got a horror movie escape room game. It was incredible, .. really scary.

Finally, we had a farewell barbecue at the Youth Hostel in Luxembourg, and when we finished we all went to a disco where we really had a great time.
