Pic-Around-the Globe

Welcome to our digital magazine: Pic-Around the Globe. In this project we will be writers, editors, designers and reporters travelling around the Globe to present some of the wonders in the world around us.

Our digital magazine should be (will be) attractive and visual but also rigorous with the scientific contents.

Get ready and sharpen your (digital) pens. The truth is out there.

OUR MAGAZINE: GUIDELINES

During the next weeks, we will be working as editorial teams to prepare THREE articles for our magazine. All our articles should:

  • Be written in first person: you are the reporters travelling to different locations and you will be telling your own experience.

  • YES to imagination but NO to scientific inaccuracies: you may create the narrative to explain the Science in the article but you need to be careful and rigorous with the scientific facts and data.

  • Include pictures and images: our articles should be as attractive and visual as possible.

  • Be written in English and Spanish: at least half of the article should be prepared in English.

  • Be properly formatted and carefully checked for typos and ortograhic mistakes.

  • Be delivered BEFORE the due date that will be set for each of them.

You may find here an example of the final result we want and a also a template to be used for the next three articles.

OUR MAGAZINE: ORGANISATION AND ROLES

For each one of the articles you will play a different role, corresponding to a different position in our magazine. I will be your General Manager.

Each role will have different responsibilities in the team and will also be preparing different parts of the articles. The responsibilies corresponding to each role are:

  • Editor-in-chief:

    • Will make sure that everyone in the team knows what to do and receives the support that he/she needs to do it from the rest of the team.

    • Put together and in order the sections prepared by each team member.

    • Gets the article ready to be delivered before the due date.

  • Graphic designer:

    • Helps the rest of the team finding the pictures, tables or images that they need.

    • Makes sure that the article is properly formatted and that it looks as nice as possible.

  • Copy editor:

    • Reads the article before deliverty to make sure that it is understandable and easy to follow.

    • Checks the article before delivery to make sure that there are no ortographic mistakes or typos and that pictures/tables/images can be clearly seen.

    • Asks the other members to correct their parts to avoid any problem detected.

  • Print manager:

    • Makes sure EVERY DAY that all the team members are working and that the tasks are completed on time.

    • Reads the final version of the article before delivery to check that everything is OK.

    • Delivers the article before the due date.

You will be changing roles for each of the three articles.

Your role performance will be evaluated by YOUR TEAMMATES and it will be a part of your qualifications at the end of the project.
