"SUPPORT THE IDEA OF GENDER EQUALITY, IT’S NOT JUST A WOMEN’S ISSUE, IT’S A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE!"

ORIGIN

Despite all achievements women got in the last years, we still live in a patriarchal and sexism/male-dominated society. Nowadays, women have to deal with lots of problems related to this inequality and the idea of mens supremacy, as we can see in the rape culture, harassment, feminicide, for example. Thinking about that’, we decided to act. We, as 3 girls, created a hashtag - #It’sEveryone’sFight - and we are now trying to spread our message to the world.

This site is exclusively for those who want to join, help or support the feminism movement and do not know how, specially men.

First of all, this is a site based on the intersectional feminism:

But, what is intersectional feminism?

Intersectionality is “the complex, cumulative manner in which the effects of different forms of discrimination combine, overlap, or intersect”. Which means that kinds of prejudice can be amplified in different ways when put together.

representation in society:

As we said, women suffer from the inequality of gender in a variety of situations and they have these problems even in their professional life, such as difference between salaries, difficulty in getting a job and the privilege of men in the choice of positions

Also, sexism is present in womens everyday lives through some attitudes evidenced in our society, such as the terms “mansplaining”, “manterrupting”, “bropriating” and “gaslightining”.

Mansplaining:

When a man devotes his time to explain something obvious to a woman, in a didactic way, as if she is unable to understand.

Manterrupting:

When a man constantly interrupts a woman, unnecessarily, not allowing her to finish her sentence. This behavior is very common in mixed meetings and lectures, when a woman is constantly interrupted by the men around her.

Bropriating:

When a man appropriates the same idea already expressed by a woman, taking credit for it. It happens a lot in meetings.

Gaslighting:

It is one of the types of psychological abuse that leads a woman to think that she has gone crazy or is wrong about an issue, when she is originally right. It is a way to make a woman doubt her sense of perception, reasoning, memories and sanity.

about us

Now you might ask, what are our objectives with this Hashtag and all this research? And they are:

  • to involve men and boys in removing the social and cultural barriers that prevent women from reaching their potential, and helping men and women to shape a new society together.

  • to engage men and boys for new gender relations without macho attitudes and behaviors

Ok...but...why should men join?

Men have a fundamental role as partners in women's rights, and they should know that.

With their help, we can accelerate the progress towards achieving gender equality. This will be achieved through a reformulation of gender equality. This will not only help women, but all the society in social, political and economic spheres. For UN Women, the voice of men is powerful to spread to the whole world that equality for all women and girls is a cause of all humanity.

That is, men should recognize their fundamental role in ending the inequality faced by women and girls around the world, in their own lives and also at more structural levels in their communities.

And what can I do to help the movement?

You can start by using this simple positive message and move towards deeper involvement by taking specific measures that contribute to a social change.

For men who join the movement, they will be counted through online activations and mobile phone technology, in addition to participation in rural and urban events. Your stories are being brought together and shared to inspire others to follow your paths.

Tips on how to overcome the issue:

Start with a simple message to the deeper involvement through the adoption of specific measures that contribute to social change.

First step is to spread the word, use our Hashtag #It’sEveryone’sFight in your social media. When a hashtag is used by many people it can call the attention of authorities and help women to reach gender equality.

What are the consequences of using the hashtag?

For men: If men show that they can be part of that journey, many paths will be changed. Sexist attitudes are mostly derived from men, with the support of some we can generate an egalitarian current of thought. That way, lots of men can be inspired by the actions of others and end up helping immensely to end disrespectful actions and speed up the process of gender equality.

For women: We women need to support each other in this cause, because it is related to us as a unity. For a woman to engage and fight for this movement, gives it a lot more strength and enables the possibility of an entirely equal future, in addition to higher self-worth of being a girl. We need women supporting women to successfully achieve the goal.

And what can all of this result in?

As the hashtags are available to all people who use social networks, the reach you can have is immense since users do not necessarily need to follow you to view your publications. In that way, a hashtag can reach people from all over the world quickly and develop a live debate on the issue of equality. With the awareness of the population through publications that use the hashtag, we can see a very wide reach, which may even generate a report for the government on the inequality of the value of women's salaries compared to men's, for example. This can help create a real change in the sexist system, also generate a social movement of fight.

Last but not least...

Making use of a hashtag, such as ours, can help women raise their voices and higher their value in society. This is extremely important because no one deserves to be despised.

Women have a long history of journey fighting for their rights and as we see there are still sexism attitudes. So it is our duty as a society, both men and women, to help generate equality. Everyone deserves to have a voice.

This movement is really important, so if you want to join our fight, we would be so happy to welcome you!
