My name is Liz Compton, and I am new to TCIS this year! I have taught for 15 years, and I love learning languages and sharing stories with students and their families. I am excited about this year's stories for 6th grade because they show us people who are brave and generous in good times and in hard times.
We will be covering 4 main units this year, with a starter unit to get us used to 6th grade:
Starter Unit: Ojibwe & Somali Stories
The Birchbark House
Somali Short Stories
Graphic Classics: Native American Tales
America's Great Depression (1929-1939): How can we grow during hard times?
Bud, Not Buddy
Out of the Dust
Hero's Journey (Stories from ancient Greece & India): Why are stories about heroes traveling and coming home so important?
The Odyssey
The Ramayana
Settling in Jamestown (1607): What happens when different people need to work together in a new place?
