Grading

Beginning April 13, students will be expected to complete all assignments posted in Google Classroom. That said, a traditional grading system is not in the best interest of our students considering all of the different external influences affecting our students’ ability to engage with this new learning platform. As a result of this, we are moving to a 1-4 grading scale for the final part of the year.

In order to receive a score of:

4: Student work exceeds grade expectations. They have demonstrated mastery of the standards that were taught.

3: Student work meets expectations. They have demonstrated an ability to successfully complete a majority of the standards being taught.

2: Student work does not meet expectations. Students are working towards being able to independently complete a majority of the standards being taught.

1: Students have been unable to demonstrate even a limited understanding of the standards being taught.

Excused - We recognize that this form of instruction is new to all of us and that we are unable to truly understand the daily circumstances in which students are functioning. When we notice that a student is not completing the assignments, we will contact caregivers. If we cannot reach families or there is an overarching concern, DeWitt's social-emotional team will intervene to better understand the students’ situations. Students in situations that prevent work completion, documented by families, can be excused on a case by case basis. Student reports will reflect their excused status.
