Having arrived in the library at Boynton Middle School for an orientation and anticipating the usual run-down on Policies & Procedures, Databases, and Library Resources, as well as a reminder about the various book promotions Ms. Foley, the Teacher-Librarian, runs (Genre Bingo, a reading survey, and Book Club), you are, at first, a bit disconcerted to find Ms. Foley and Ms. Mia, the library clerk, missing and, then, shocked when metal bars you didn't even know existed come clanging down from the ceiling, sealing the library off from the rest of the school. This message appears on your Chromebook screen:
Greetings, Boynton Middle School students. If you want to ensure the safe return of the library staff and escape to your next period, you must break the digital locks holding the bars you see around you in place using the information in the library orientation materials.
As the message dissipates and you're wondering where to begin, a piece of paper flutters down from above. On it, you read:
Though not eligible for awards given by the American Library Association, Harry Potter needed no help in becoming one of the most popular fantasy series published in the United States, even before the wide-spread use of eBooks to facilitate access. The direction for the rest of the series with its focus on the war between good and evil was established early on and followed course over the next decade.
