CCC Student Group Says THANK YOU!

The CCC Student Service group hosted an entrepreneurship workshop on the weekend of 2-4 March for young adults from the CCC Orphanage in Wolaita Soddo. An amazing team of different and successful entrepreneurs in Addis were present to share their life experiences and their take on business and entrepreneurship. The students from CCC were introduced to the world of business and many things related to it. They received first hand training on how to start their own business. Mr. Haines' business class gave presentations about the basics of business and they also pitched some ideas of small business that could be started. We believe that every individual that participated in this workshop gained helpful information on how to start a business. We want to thank the various guest business leaders who presented during the workshop:

  • Mr. Abye from AfriMex
  • Dr. Eleni from BlueMoon
  • Ms. Blayne and Mr. Kifle from TruLuv Granola
  • Ms. Tseday from Kaldi's Coffee
  • Mr. Mesfin from Lalibela Hudad Lodge

We also want to thank the following groups and individuals for their support in helping us put on this event:

  • W/ro Zufan and A-Z catering for the meals
  • The ICS Drivers, Yihalem, Wassihun and Yehdego, for doing morning and evening pick-ups
  • The ICS Communications Dept for their contribution and help with recruiting sponsors
  • The ICS PCL for their contribution
  • The various ICS faculty for their contributions
  • To Makush Gallery for their contribution
  • To Mr. Redmond for his support of this workshop for all their contribution in making the workshop a reality

Request: materials needed for a project at the ISSEA STEM tournament

For a design and engineering project at the ISSEA STEM tournament on 12-14 April, we're collecting some materials that students can use to build with. We'd like cardboard boxes (various sizes/thicknesses) or cardboard tubes, plastic bottles, metal tins, styrofoam packing shapes, etc. No glass, please! We'd like materials to be clean so students can use them in their project. We will put out some collection bins in front of the cafeteria, or send your contributions to John Iglar (S110) or Ken Gunther (M203). The Green Team will collect materials on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please bring them in those days. We'll take contributions after the break (27 March) until the day before the tournament (10 April). Thanks for your help!

Back on Track!

From our early days as the American Community School (ACS), the ACS/ICS track has been a large part of our community. From a dirt and red clay surface to the track of today, students, families and community members have always had a place to walk, run, jump and sprint! In 2002, ICS built a state-of-the-art rubberized, cushioned track, the only one in Addis Ababa. The track was dedicated to Haile Gebrselassie in a special ceremony before we broke ground.

The original track venue remains and was rubberized 15 years ago in 2002. That surface is only viable today because of 15 years of tender loving care by ICS maintenance crews who have patched, sealed, swept, resealed, squeegeed it during 15 consecutive rainy seasons, worried over it and repaired it. The diligence of our athletic and PE department, teachers, coaches and athletic directors have given it a long, good life.

To get ‘Back on Track’ and to serve our community for decades to come, ICS will resurface its existing track. The Board of Governors has approved the funds and we are creating a crowdsourcing campaign to help with the extra's like permanent bleachers, more shade, improved sound system, etc.

The easiest way to participate is to go to our GoFundMe campaign, at:

You can also donate directly at ICS with cash or check or through a direct bank wire/transfer. Just email for details. This fundraising campaign will close on April 30, 2018, so be sure to get your gift in early!
