The ICS Secondary lesson plan template is split into two sections: Class Information and Lesson Plan.
Behaviour for Learning and Class Dynamics
Enter any information relating to your ability to deliver a lesson and maintain a positive learning environment. Includes specific seating plan considerations.
SEN/EAL Students
First name and surname for each student.
Needs and Intervention
Needs should describe the main difficulties that the students experience in your specific lesson.
Intervention should specify the provision you typically make for that student in your lesson. In the case of SEN students, there should be some connection to the SEN strategies document on the SEN page of the Dashboard. You should include things like seating plans and the presence of an SEN teacher in your class, if applicable.
The SEN department have created a SEN list for quick consultation.
The EAL department are in the process of creating a similar resource for students with formally identified EAL needs.
Links to Unit Plan
You should make regular links in lessons to elements of your unit plan. This section allows you to explicitly show where you are using inquiry questions and AtLs in your lessons, or to highlight key and related concepts or the global context.
At a minimum, teachers should provide a learning objective and AtL each lesson, usually at the start, although one or both of these might simply be continued from the previous lesson, if that is appropriate.
Learning Experiences
Detail the main parts of your lesson, beginning with a starter activity. Focus on what the students are supposed to learn, not just what they will do.
Differentiation
You can match differentiation measures to particular learning experiences by aligning them on the page, or simply use this column to speak more generally about differentiation in your lesson.
Include any specific provision for SEN/EAL students if it differs from the routine provision described under Needs and Intervention.
Include upward differentiation (challenge) tasks, but be wary of assigning specific names ahead of time, unless you have recent data to suggest that only specific students are ready to take on a particular challenge task.
Materials and Equipment
Only include items that an observer would not assume to be present in a typical lesson. There is no need to mention laptops, or calculators in Maths, for instance. This is primarily for Science, Design, Art, Music and PHE lessons, but of course other classes might sometimes require stationary or other equipment.
Homework
Detail any homework due in, or any that is due to be set, including due date. Put 'none' if not applicable.
