SPORT WITHOUT BARRIERS

OSCAR LEONARD CARL PISTORIUS

OSCAR PISTORIUS (Johannesburg,22 november 1986) is a former South African sprinter, Parolympic champion in 2004 on 100, 200 and 400 flat meters in the T44 category. Nicknamed “the fastest man on no legs” Pistrorius is a bilateral amputee. He ran thanks to special carbon fiber

prostheses, called cheetah. He was the first and only amputee athlete capable of winning a medal in a world championship competition for able-bodied, obtaining silver with the South African 4x400 meter relay at the 2011 APRIL World Championships, running only in battery.

In 2017 he was sentenced by the Johannesburg Supreme Court of Appeal to thirteen years and 6 months in prison for the murder of his girlfriend REEVA STEENKAMP, which took place in 2013.

THE FIRST SUCCESS:

Son of Henke and Sheila Pistorius (who died in 2002), Oscar was born with a serious malformation (both fibulae were absent and the feet were severely malformed), which forced him, at the age of eleven months, to have his legs amputated. During his high school years he played rugby and water polo, then an injury led him to athletics. His maternal great-grandfather was an Italian who emigrated to Kenya.

bebe vio

Bebe is from Venice, she is 23 years old. She is a lively athlete and full of interests: school, drawing, Scouts and fencing. At the age of 11 she fell ill and lost her arms and legs.

Thanks to Paralympic fencing she is having wonderful experiences with a lot of satisfaction. She gets many successes: the Rio 2016 Paralympics, the 2017 World Championships in Rome and the 2018 European Championships in Terni. She keeps gold medals in her medal table.

She appears as a testimonial, in many television programs, to spread the knowledge of fencing in wheelchairs and the Paralympic sports.

I really admire this athlete, because she always smiles even in all her difficulties. Augusto Betti, 2^C
