1996 Participated in the Tainan City Ceramics Society’s Annual Exhibit.
1996 Participated in the first Tainan City Pottery Street Exhibit.
1996 Participated in the Tainan Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Year of the Ox Special Exhibit.
1997 Became Taiwan Literary Season’s Confucius Temple Clay Pot Model Maker.
1998 Participated in the License Art Museum’s Cutting Edge of Ceramics New Year Group Exhibit.
1998 Established the Brand of Fu Chang Painted Pots along with wife Mei-Rui Zheng.
1999 Became Zuozhen District’s First Hakua Festival Pottery Model Maker.
1999 Was selected for the Tainan Fine Arts Exhibit for three years.
2001 Participated in the License Art Museum’s Creation of Clay Pots Exhibit.
2005 Joined the Ting-Yun Firewood Kiln Team.
2010 Fang Yuan Art Museum Firewood Kiln Group Exhibit.
2010 December, established the Guang-Shan Firewood Kiln in the Jiangjun District with son Bo-Hao.
2013 Appointed as Executive Director of the Tainan City Ceramics Society.
2016 Self-built a second Firewood Kiln.
2018 Participated in the Hualien International Firewood Kiln Arts Season.
黃福昌
出生於台灣台南市。1993年開始由好友郭國鵬老師啟蒙學習陶藝(手拉胚)，在沒有網路資訊的時代，泰半都是自學，參考相關書籍，配合實務操作，學習製陶技巧。於1995年加入南陶協會，初次展覽於南陶協會展覽參展，一路走來參展覽無數，包括：全國文藝季陶藝展、台南第一中學(茶與生活)特展等，另外，許多茶坊也都有他的作品。至今，對陶藝創作保持濃厚的興趣，也為在地添加了一份濃厚的藝術氣息......
黃福昌認為人生並不需要太過於華麗，純樸的鄉下生活才是他嚮往的目標，因此他的作品風格，偏向素樸自然。「做作品是從失敗中成長過來的，也從不斷的試驗、失敗當中，取得經驗，才能使作品更完美」，這樣的創作理念，使他更朝著自己的目標邁進。
關於做陶的態度，黃福昌認為需從基礎開始，要紮實，沒有穩定的基礎，後續製作創作時，可能會遇到很大的困難。做陶也就像做任何事一樣，每個階段遇到瓶頸，都要面對解決！這樣才能使自己的基礎更加穩定。黃福昌的生活態度，值得我們學習。
Huang Fu Chang
Born in Tainan City of Taiwan. He was influenced by his friend and teacher Guo-Peng Guo to learn Ceramics (molding). During a time without internet, Fu-Chang mainly learned the skills of ceramics on his own through reference material and application. Fu-Chang joined the Tainan City Ceramics Society in 1995, he first exhibited in the Tainan Ceramics Association Exhibit and participated in countless exhibits following. They include the National Arts Ceramics Exhibit, National Tainan First Senior High School’s Tea and Life Special Exhibit, etc. Also, many tea houses have his art pieces on display. Until now, he holds a deep interest in the creation of Ceramics and adds a strong artistic flavor to the local area.
Fu-Chang thinks that life does not need to be overly fancy, a simple country life is his yearning goal. Because of this, his works lean towards a natural and simplistic style. “Creating art pieces is the growth from failure, and the experience from constant trial and error, then the piece can be considered perfect.” With this mindset for creation, his moves closer towards his goal.
Regarding his attitude towards ceramics, Fu-Chang thinks that from the start one must have a solid foundation in the beginning, and without that, one could face great challenges while creating pieces. Ceramics is just like anything else in life, at every level you reach a bottleneck, we must face it and solve it! This way we strengthen our own foundation. Fu-Chang’s attitude toward life is worth learning from.
