Trumpet Maintenance Tips

General Care

Your trumpet is very valuable and should be taken care of at all times. Never leave your instrument outside, in a car, or in an environment that is drastically cold or warm. The trumpet belongs in its case, in your hands, or on an approved trumpet stand. Before playing, wash your mouth out quickly with water so no debris will enter the instrument. Even if you have a soda, the sugar from your mouth can enter the instrument and make the workings of your trumpet sticky! Always have your instrument checked by Mr. Kemerer at least once a month.

Mouthpiece and Valves

Never press or "screw" your mouthpiece into the instrument. If it does get stuck, DO NOT try to use a tool or "muscle" the mouthpiece out. Bring the instrument to Mr. Kemerer. I have a special tool to get extract the mouthpiece. Using anything else, will break the instrument. With your valves, you need to oil them at least once a week if not more. Any issues, bring it to Mr. Kemerer. Never pull out the other slides of the instrument. They will be used later in your musical career.
