**Frequently Asked Questions for HWISPA Pre-Gala Silent Auction:**
**Q: What is the HWISPA pre-gala silent auction?**
A: The HWISPA pre-gala silent auction is an event organized by the HWISPA of New Jersey to raise funds for playground initiatives.

**Q: How can I participate in the silent auction?**
A: To participate, register on the gala site using your email address and credit card for bidding. You can use your email or choose a default username.
**Q: How to bid?**
A: Bidding starts at 50% of Fair Market Value, with bid increments between $5 and $30. Place a single bid or set an auto-bid with your maximum amount bid. You can also opt for instant purchases with the "buy now" option.

Subject: HWISPA 2023-2024 Annual Fund Drive Exceed Goals!
Dear HWIS NJ Families,
We are thrilled to announce that the HWISPA 2023-2024 Annual Fund Drive has been an incredible success. Thanks to the support and dedication of our parents, staff, faculty, friends, and students, we have raised a total of $10,974.07, with an additional $88.71 collected from loose change. This brings our grand total to $11,062.78, which will be used for the purchase of interactive boards.
We would like to express our deepest appreciation to each and every one of you who helped us reach our fundraising goal, including our staff members, as well as those who encouraged their family members and friends to do the same. We are especially grateful to The Teochanowski Family, The Hoyos Family, Mr. David Heller, Ms. Trace Xiong, and Srta. Cassia Ribeiro for their generous contributions.
Congratulations to Grade 4-5 for achieving the highest participation rate, with 77% of families from that grade making a donation. Additionally, a special shoutout goes to Preschool 2s' 3s' for winning the loose change challenge and raising a total of $42.78. As a well-deserved reward, both grades will enjoy an ice cream social and pajama party.
We have contacted the individual winners separately, and we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to them once again.
As we eagerly anticipate the new year, we are filled with excitement for yet another successful fundraiser.

Subject: Sunday's Meal-Packing Event
December 2023
Time is flying! As promised, here is the update on how we’re helping our students to participate more directly in Community Service this year.
All students participated in the Holiday Card Program during the week of Thanksgiving break. As part of target language classwork, they created more than 150 cards in Chinese or Spanish for senior citizens in local homes. The Chinese Cultural Program at Embassy Manor in Edison and the Hispanic Cultural Program at Alameda Center in Perth Amboy are excited to distribute these messages as part of their holiday festivities. What a wonderful way for students to bring joy to others by using their unique skills!
A big thank you to everyone who donated clothing to our Upcycled Uniform Program. We generated nearly $85 from sales. Some remaining items were selected by teachers – especially in the younger grades – to keep in classrooms as back-ups on those messy days. The majority of remaining items were added to our donations for Fundación Sanctuary. We are still collecting donations of gently worn and laundered clothing (no rips/holes or stains, please) in the big grey bin outside of the Main Office.
This brings me to the results of our School Supplies Drive for Fundación Sanctuary. With your support, we collected 4 very large boxes of backpacks, pencils/pens, crayons/markers, paint/brushes, notebooks, rulers, scissors, glue sticks, toys, and clothing for impoverished children in Colombia. Shipping totaled $575, which was funded through generous contributions from families, Upcycled Uniform sales, and HWISPA budget. We appreciate you!
Sign up for our first Meal-Packing Event!
This Sunday, Dec 10 from 3-5pm (School Gym)
We are banding together to make brown bag lunches for the homeless in Newark. Help4All is a local grassroots effort and through donations, feeds 125-300 people every week. There are many ways to get involved: Families can donate items (check the above sign-up link for details), bake treats, and/or spend time packing meals.
If you’re interested in Community Service, I’d love to work with you. Please volunteer here!
Wishing you a warm and wonderful holiday season,
Liz Song

Subject: HWISPA Annual Report Released
Dear HWIS NJ Parents,
As the Thanksgiving season approaches, the HWISPA Fundraising Committee would like to express our deepest gratitude to our parents whose support has been most valuable in school events and actively participating in our fundraising initiatives.
The 2022-2023 school year was incredible, filled with a multitude of fun activities organized by HWISPA, as well as successful fundraising events. We were able to raise an impressive total of $15,573. We have attached the Annual Report, which provides detailed information about the allocation of funds. As a result, we have been able to purchase a recreational shed, several smartboards for elementary classrooms, matching funds to buy a Xylophone for our music class, assist in providing target language books for every classroom, and we are currently in the process of installing new stage lights and projectors. We are extremely grateful for the unwavering support of all the parents, as their dedication has been crucial to our accomplishments.
We invite you to read our stories through our newly launched HWISPA Annual Fund site here.
The HWISPA Annual Fund Drive 2023-2024 is just two weeks away, and we count on your support for its resounding success. This year, our primary goal is to raise funds for the remaining smartboards needed in every classroom. We have an exciting incentive for the combined classes or grades that have the highest participation. Stay tuned for more details, coming soon. We believe that together, as one community, we can reach our goal and make a significant impact on our students' education.
We eagerly look forward to another year filled with achievements, obstacles to overcome, and beautiful memories.
In closing, we send warm wishes to everyone for an incredibly happy Thanksgiving!
Regards,
HWISPA Fundraising Committee

Subject: Community Service - School Supplies Drive
September 2023
As we start the school year, I’m excited to introduce myself and our revamped Community Service program. My name is Liz Song, and I am the Community Service Committee Chair on HWISPA. I have a first-grader and fourth-grader in the Mandarin track. This will be our family’s third year at HWIS.
One of our school’s values is for students “to make a difference, especially by providing their talents and means to the community at large." With that in mind, this year’s program will include new activities that allow our students to participate directly in helping people in need, both locally and abroad. Please stay tuned for more details.
We will still collect items for donation. In fact, our first drive starts this month and will run through Thanksgiving break. As in years before, we are collecting new and gently used school supplies for Fundación Sanctuary. This organization works to improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations, reduce poverty, and close the inequality gap of Africans in Colombia. Specifically, our drive can help more than 100 children (ages 2 to 15) who need basic items for their education. See the attached flyer for needed items.
Please leave your donations in the big green chest outside of the front doors in the Clock Tower. If you would like to contribute towards shipping costs, please send money via Venmo to @NinaYLiu with “Colombia” in the memo.
If you’re interested in Community Service, I’d love to work with you. Please sign up to volunteer!
Thank you for your support,
Liz Song
