Health, wellbeing and leading a healthy lifestyle
How to improve performance in individual and team sports
Analysing performance using evidence and data
The role of psychology, nutrition and motivation in sport
The course aims to develop learners who are confident, active, and able to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
Learning will take place through a wide range of activities, including:
Practical lessons in a variety of individual and team sports
Classroom theory work on anatomy, physiology, training and sports psychology
Performance analysis using video, observation and personal targets
Projects involving planning and evaluating training programmes
Group work and discussions on factors affecting performance
The course blends hands‑on practical learning with strong academic understanding.
You will usually need:
The school's Physical Education kit
Trainers or appropriate footwear for indoor and outdoor activities
Access to a digital device for research or performance analysis (depending on school requirements)
The new GCSE will use a combination of practical assessment and a written examination.
Performance in two activities (this may be two team activities, two individual activities, or one of each)
Analysis and improvement of performance
May include video evidence or teacher observation
A written paper containing short‑answer and extended‑answer questions
Topics include anatomy, training, health, sports psychology and lifestyle
The course places strong emphasis on combining practical ability with scientific knowledge.
