Hello Everyone,
My name is Miss Jeffries and I am super excited to be teaching Year 4 this year. Alongside myself will be Miss Harwood. We have lots of exciting topics this year, which we think the children are going to love! A few reminders: PE is on a Monday, Forest School is on a Wednesday and all homework is to be returned on a Wednesday. I hope we all have a fantastic year together and I look forward to meeting everyone. If you have any queries or questions please feel free contact via a dojo message. 🙂
Our topic this term has been The Tudors! We have learnt all about who they were and what life was like in Tudor times. We studied Henry VIII and his six wives and even created our own stop-motion video to show what we’ve learned. Next, we are going to find out about the Spanish Armada and have a go at making pottage, a traditional Tudor dish. We were also very lucky to have a Tudor show visit our school — it was amazing and so much fun!
In PE, we have been learning basketball and have now moved on to gymnastics.
Every day, we play Welsh games to consolidate our understanding of the Welsh language.
This term, our learning is all about Planet Earth. We’ve been finding out how the water cycle works, what happens when places flood, and how we can all help to look after our world. We’ve also been thinking about Cynefin, which means understanding our own special place in the world, and we’ll be linking everything we learn to our local area of Cwmbran. We’ve explored how water travels through clouds, rain, rivers, and back again, and looked at real examples of flooding nearby. We’ve also talked about the small things we can do every day to help protect our planet.
In Music, we’ve been learning about using our voices confidently and clearly. We’ve been practising singing together and learning the Welsh song Calon Lân, focusing on pitch, expression, and singing as a group. In Art in Spring 2, we’ll be looking closely at animal drawings, exploring how artists use texture, pattern, and lines to bring creatures to life. We’ll have a go at creating our own detailed animal artwork too!
In PE, we’ll be learning Dance, using music and movement to tell stories, work as a team, and build our confidence.
Our Welsh learning will stay the same, with lots of games and activities to help us practise speaking and understanding the language.
