Peek into the Past
During Autumn term, Year 6 explored the powerful stories and events of World War II. Through historical sources, storytelling, and creative writing, pupils learned about evacuation, rationing, and the resilience of Welsh communities during wartime Britain. They’ve written newspaper reports, decoded messages, and reflected upon the emotions of children living through conflict.
To bring history to life, Year 6 visited the Imperial War Museum in London, where they explored real artefacts and interactive exhibits. They also took in the sights from the London Eye, linking their learning to the geography and landmarks of the city.
FaCE Conference
On 21st November, our head pupils (Elliot & Imogen) and deputy head pupils (Lincoln & Hanna) attended a Family & Community Engagement Youth Conference at Bryn Meadows Health & Spa. The purpose of the event was to help shape future policies and share views with a wide range of organisations from across Wales.
Windrush Workshop
As part of our topic on World War 2, we also learned about the Windrush Generation and their impact on post-war Britain. As part of this, we invited Sean Wharton from 'No Boundaries' into school, who talked to the children all about the prejudice and racism encountered by the Windrush immigrants. It was a very profound, but thoroughly interesting and inspiriational talk.
Preparing for Transition
Our head boy and girl (Elliot & Imogen) visited Croesyceiliog School to experience what a typical day in Year 7 consisted of. They made notes and interviewed staff and pupils, then created a presentation which they delivered to the rest of the class when they returned to school. This included information about lessons, timings, uniform and learning experiences.
Earth Explorers
This term, Y6 have explored rhythm and beat by creating their own junk instruments to create a 'Samba'-style performance, experimenting with sound and using key musical vocabulary.
In science, they investigated states of matter through a polar ice caps experiment, observing changes and linking melting ice to real‑world climate change.
In RE, we learned about different Christian denominations and the idea of stewardship, asking thoughtful questions and making connections between faith, values, and caring for our world.
A group of 5 pupils (Marianna, Lottie, Leon, Daniel and Alfie) also took part in the Torfaen Schools' Environmental Quiz, at Cwmbran's Congress Theatre, finsihing in 2nd place!
