Message from the Interim Headteacher
WOW, the past two weeks have flown by since returning after the half term break! Across the school, children have been working incredibly hard, particularly as they complete their online personalised assessments. It has been lovely to see their focus and determination.
Our Year 6 pupils have been especially busy, practising for their end-of-year production and developing their exciting enterprise projects. I have thoroughly enjoyed sampling some of the delicious treats they have created – a real highlight!
We are all looking forward to Sports Days next week, which are always a fantastic opportunity to celebrate teamwork, effort and enjoyment. With only five weeks left until the summer holidays, transition activities have been planned and the children will continue to have many more wonderful learning opportunities within their classes.
Wishing you a lovely weeknd.
Mrs Pegington
Head and Deputy Girls and Boys
This week we have been really busy and excited as we start preparing for some of the most important events of the term.
We have begun rehearsing for our school show and we are really enjoying it. It has been great to see everyone getting involved, learning their lines and practising the songs. We are all working hard together and we cannot wait to perform it in front of everyone.
In Year 6, we have also started planning and preparing recipes for our cafés. We have been thinking carefully about what we would like to make and how we can make our cafés successful. It has been lots of fun working in teams and being creative. We have also had a donation of supplies for our Cafe from Tesco in Spytty, we are extremely grateful!
We are especially excited for Sports Day on Monday. We are all looking forward to taking part, cheering each other on and showing great teamwork.
Please continue to check the Lliswerry Voice for important information and dates for the diary. Please be aware all dates are subject to change.

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mr Mitchell who has started with us at Lliswerry this half term in the role of seconded Deputy Headteacher. Mr Mitchell has already met many of our pupils and parents over the past two weeks and is looking forward to meeting many more of you in the coming weeks.
As always, one of our weekly highlights at Lliswerry is our Celebration Assembly and hot chocolate treat with Mrs Pegington. These children are working so hard with their learning and really are Lliswerry role models! Remeber to keep an eye on the postman this weekend as he delivers our Superstar postcards too!
We were joined by PCSO Hewitt and his colleagues who work for Neighbourhood Policing Team to share some important messages on Online Safety.
Please reinforce this message at home, useful information can be found on the NSPCC website.
Remember not to take holidays in term time. Poor attendance can significantly impact on the well-being and academic attainment of your child. Our attendance target is 91.36% for the whole school.
Please see the attached chart which demonstrates the effects of good and poor attendance. Our current whole school attendance is 88.15% which is considerably lower than the target and as a school we need to work hard to improve.
If your child is unwell please contact the school office.
He's here! Meet Dandy, the newest member in Nursery. He hatched on Thursday 7th June. We are loving every minute. He loves splashing in the water, eating his food but especially loves a cuddle and a tickle under his chin!
Animals Interactive!
Reception were very excited to start their new topic with some fabulous visitors! Animals Interactive came to introduce our children to a range of animals from cute furry Guinea Pigs to a beautiful scaly chameleon. Highlights of the morning were cuddles with a meerkat, tickling an owl and stroking a beautiful skunk! The children were thrilled to have had such a rich experience and despite the excitement they were extremely careful to make sure the animals felt safe and calm with us. Everyone learned lots of information as well as being left with curiosity to find out more! Why do chameleons change colour? What do skunks eat? Why is the tortoise slow on the cold floor? We have a lot to learn about and the children are certainly keen to get started!
Year 2 had a fantastic school trip to Barry Beach with Beach Academy. They learned all about how long different types of rubbish take to degrade and the impact litter can have on animals living in the ocean. As part of their visit, the children also took part in a beach litter pick, helping to keep the beach clean and tidy. It was a fun and educational day, and the children showed great enthusiasm for looking after our environment and keeping it clean and tidy!
This week, 2CO presented their class assembly and did an outstanding job! They spoke with confidence, enthusiasm, and clear voices throughout. We are incredibly proud of all their hard work and effort. Thank you to everyone who came along to support them—it was greatly appreciated!
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, children will no longer be permitted to bring in birthday cakes or any food items for distribution within their class.
We understand that birthdays are special occasions and we will continue to recognise and celebrate each child’s birthday in school in alternative ways that are safe and inclusive for everyone.
We appreciate your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all members of our school community.
In order to support parents in the morning, after half term we will be keeping our classroom doors open a little longer (until 8.55am) to allow a longer timed window to drop off. We hope this will allow more children to come in through their classrooms and start their day calmly with their peers. This will also reduce the amount of people at the main office in the mornings where it gets busy. Many thanks for your support as we know our site is large in size and parents often drop off at multiple classrooms.
We are looking forward to seeing you all next week for Sports Day. Access to the field will be via the school gates that run alongside Nursery and Reception. Staff will be there to direct you and the route will be sign posted.
