Message from the Interim Headteacher
Wow, what a busy couple of weeks it has been! It has been a real delight to see all the wonderful teaching and learning opportunities continuing to take place throughout the school. Particular highlights have included the fantastic Dragons’ Den project that our Year 6 pupils have been involved in, as well as the brilliant class assemblies I have had the pleasure of attending.
I hope you all enjoy a lovely half-term break next week. We very much look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 1st June, ready for what promises to be an exciting summer term 2!
Warmest wishes
Mrs Pegington
Head and Deputy Girls and Boys
Recently, we proudly presented our business plan to the “Dragons”, Mrs Peggington, Mrs Isaac and Miss Driscoll. We are delighted to share that they were so impressed that they agreed to invest to help us launch our very own café. We are very excited to get started after half term!
As well as this, we are busy preparing for our upcoming Year 6 leavers’ concert. We have been working hard and can’t wait to perform. One of our favourite songs in the show is My Pritt Stick, which we hope you will all enjoy!
We are looking forward to sharing more updates with you soon, have a great half term!

After careful planning and collaboration, Year 6 pupils presented their pop-up cafe business proposals to the panel of dragons.
The dragons heard from the marketing teams, the food and hygiene teams, the customer relations teams and the finance teams. Each team gave details of their roles and responsibilities and the steps they will take to ensure their business is a success. Pupils communicated with clarity, enthusiasm and dedication.
Each proposal was considered in detail: the dragons asked questions and then took time to discuss and deliberate . Once a decision had been made, pupils returned to the hall to find out if their pitches had been successful...
It was an overwhelming 'yes' from the dragons! Pupils were thrilled to hear that they now have the financial backing to start their business.
On to the next steps of purchasing ingredients, baking and preparing!
Da iawn Year 6, you were incredible.
Our Year 6 learners who will be moving on to Llanwern had a wonderful opportunity to welcome Mrs Meyrick, who visited to give them an insight into what their future school days will look like. She shared lots of helpful and important information, helping to ease any worries and build excitement about the transition to high school.
All of our Year 6 pupils are now really looking forward to their upcoming transition days and the opportunity to experience life at their new schools.
We are being very patient witing for our ducklings to hatch. We put them in the incubator and need to wait 28 days for them to hatch. We think we have 4 ducklings that will hatch when we return after the half term break so watch this space for further updates.
Our Eco Changemakers recently led a fantastic assembly to remind everyone about the importance of recycling. They shared key messages about how we can all help protect our environment by using the correct bins and reducing waste. The children did a wonderful job of explaining why recycling matters and encouraging everyone in the school to make responsible choices. Well done to our Eco Team for such an informative and inspiring assembly!
Year 3 are having a fantastic time learning how to play the Pennywhistle. They have learnt how to play 'Hot Cross Buns' and have started to learn 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. They also had a competition who can play the longest note and are trying to beat the teachers! Keep up the excellent work Year 3, Miss Milton, Miss Murphy and Miss O'Shaughnessy are so proud of you!
Online Personalised Assessments for Year 2 to Year 6 children will take place between Monday 1st June and Friday 12th June 2026. There are three online assessments: Reading, Maths Procedural and Maths Reasoning. Class teachers will organise when they carry out the assessments to meet the needs of their class.
Please rest assured that learner wellbeing is paramount and these assessments should not be a cause of worry for the children.
We are finding that children are bringing more and more items in from home to swap or trade with friends such as football or Pokemon cards. This is causing upset which in turn is impacting on children's readiness to learn and focus in class. Please ensure your child does not bring such cards into school, along with their own footballs and other 'toys' as when things are damaged or misplaced then this is having a negative impact on learning. Thank you for your support with this.
1TU performed a fantastic, enthusiastic showcase to their families on Thursday! The children were able to showcase all of the fabulous learning they had completed since starting Year 1 and all of the interesting ideas they had put forward as suggestions to learn about in the Summer term. Mrs Doolan and Mrs Casagrande were so proud of them - it's not easy to stand at the front and deliver lines and songs but they smashed it!
A huge thank you to all who attended - it really was lovely to see families engage in the activities after the showcase and we hope it gave you a small insight as to what happens in the classroom!
1PR - what a few weeks it has been!
You pulled it out of the bag and delivered a superb class assembly to your loved ones. The Year 1 team are so proud of your resilience, determination and your fantastic singing too! You worked so hard to learn your lines and deliver a lovely class assembly based on our learning throughout the year.
Thank you to all who attended, it really does make a difference to the children. The children were like bottles of pop upon returning to the classroom!
In order to support parents in the morning, after half term we will be keeping our classroom doors open a little longer - until 8.55am - to allow a longer timed window to drop off. We hope this will allow more children to come in through their classrooms and start their day calmly with their peers. This will also reduce the amount of people at the main office in the mornings where it gets busy. Many thanks for your support as we know our site is large in size and parents often drop off at multiple classrooms.
A mix of Year 5 and 6 girls took part in the Newport girls football tournament this Thursday at Rodney Parade. We were so proud of them as they made it all the way to the quarter finals! The girls were unstoppable in the group stages winning 3 games, 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0. We narrowly lost out in the quarter finals by 2-0, but the girls did themselves and the school proud, a superb effort! Well done!
