This project has been developed for students to learn Scratch coding basics, build confidence in their coding skills, and apply their knowledge of Gerald of Wales in their History lessons.
Provided are two animations for students to use as a starting point, with a PowerPoint to use as a teaching resource. This is also provided in PDF format to issue to students to allow them to progress at their own pace. Planning their game is encouraged, and using internet resources provides an opportunity to discuss copyright issues and search tools.
Included: PowerPoint teaching resource, PDF document, two Scratch animations of Gerald of Wales and three initial video screencast tutorials.
The first Scratch game is a simple introduction to using coding blocks and drawing your own sprites.
A second example that students could use. The Gerald sprite glides to each location and uses the sensing block to initiate actions.
Video tutorial 1: Drawing your first Sprite.
Video tutorial 2: Adding facial features and a second costume.
Video tutorial 3: Adding a Stage and drawing Location Marker Sprites.
